Forest School

The children have been enjoying exploring the woods again, building on previous skills and knowledge from May.  They have especially enjoyed having P1 with us in the morning and the support from parents and carers out helping us has been phenomenal.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have already participated and remind others that its not too late to join us.

Wrap up warm and lets enjoy the next 3 weeks.

Morrison’s Competition

The children participated in a small competition with Morrison’s, where the children were asked to name their new children’s trolley’s.  Mrs O’Driscoll was given an anonymous list of trolley names and chose the following winners:

  1. Lacey with Nessie
  2. Fara with Rabbie
  3. Savanna with Neeps

The girls were taken along to the stores opening ceremony and had their pictures taken with the trolleys and collected a prize for participating.  Well done girls.

Forest School is due to start on Thursday 31st October 2019 and will continue for the next 6 Thursdays.

The programme will be slightly different to the one we implemented in May this year but we hope to have just as much fun as we did and explore even more of our local woodland.

In the morning we will meet at the nursery as normal and walk to the woods with P1 at 9.15am, returning to the nursery for approximately 11.45.

In the afternoon, we will leave at 12.45 and return approximately 2.30.

Please ensure your child is wearing warm and waterproof clothing for these days.

If you have any further questions please speak to a member of staff.

Winter is coming

Now the colder weather is starting to come we would like to remind you that we do like to go out in all weathers so please ensure that the children have appropriate clothing for the weather conditions that day – puddle suits are ideal as outdoor play can be messy too. Your child’s own wellies, rain jackets, and waterproof trousers can also be left on your child’s peg at the nursery.

Thank you

Grandparents Day 7/10/19

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our Grandparents (A massive 96% of you) for attending our Stay and Play session to introduce Intergenerational work into the ECC.  It was lovely to see so many faces and to hear the children telling you all about their learning.

We have discussed many ideas to continue this collaborative work and have already began planning further sessions.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon but in the meantime, here are some of the lovely interactions we have captured of you with your grandchild/ren.

The Big Bedtime Read

Wow what a fantastic turn out for the launch of our big bedtime read project. Big thanks to Marcia for organising such a brilliant event to promote the importance of a relaxed bedtime routine and the benefits of these quality interactions between you and your child will have on their communication development.  Everyone had a great day coming to nursery in their pyjamas, reading stories, singing songs, eating popcorn and of course we can’t forget the pillow fight.  Thank you to all our families for supporting us.

Here are some pictures of the fun we had…

17/09/2019

Good morning,

We have been very busy since returning in August.

The children began the session with an interest in the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs’.  In this traditional tale, one of the little pigs goes to an apple orchard and we are very lucky to have our very own orchard within the school grounds which we can collect tasty fruit from to have from our snack.  We talked about what else we could use the apples for and enjoyed making a delicious apple crumble with Natalie. Some of the apples we collected couldn’t be ate, so we used them to create some lovely paintings.

“I used the green apple tool to cut the apples” – Chelsie

The children have been exploring a range of materials to deepen their learning of the story.  We retold the story using puppets and props, watched the story online, designed houses and explored bubble painted (blowing like the big bad wolf).

“Huff and he Puff” – Logan

This year we have decided to move our fish tank from the Jungle Room into the Forest Room.  The children named all 6 of the fish and began asking lots of questions about them so we have introduced a variety of books to explore different parts of fish and will learn how to look after them.

“We feed the fish a little drop so we don’t scare them.” – Charlie P.

The children are continuing to explore the fish but are beginning to show curiosity in colour mixing and building castles.  Keep looking back to see our future learning and please feel free to come and look at and leave comments in our floorbooks.
