The school’s Leading the Learning Gardening Group are trying to develop our school garden so that pupils can benefit from the learning experiences of growing flowers and vegetables and learning about the close bond between science and nature. This week we signed up to the RHS Campaign for School gardening, an initiative set up to support and develop school gardens. We have several tasks to complete which then allow us to receive support and prizes from the RHS.

I was very saddened to see the condition of our school polytunnel this morning. Unfortunately it has been damaged to an extent that we are going to have to fit an entirely new polythene shell. We have also had raised beds, plant pots, watering cans and trestles destroyed.

We hope to rectify this and repair and replace where possible. Therefore we are looking for some help and support from the local community. We will be looking for some people to volunteer their services to help rebuild the polytunnel.

We are also looking to have old unused gardening equipment donated. Old wooden trowels, forks and spades were built to last a lifetime, if you have any you could donate we would ask that either an adult brings them in or if you contact the school office we can arrange to have them collected.

I appreciate all help and support in order to develop our school garden for the benefit of pupils at Dalrymple Primary School.
