Today we went outside for maths to revise angles and to find them in nature. We found a range of angles and talked about how to measure the size. This will also go towards our John Muir Award!

17.04.2019

We have started out journey towards earning our John Muir Award! We had a visitor from the John Muir Trust who arranged different activities outdoors for us such as a scavenger hunt and ladybug racing. We cannot wait to get going!

29.03.2019

We were outside today learning how to look after trees  by pruning them so that they continue to grow.

28.03.2019

Today we had a visitor in from Scottish Parliament. We worked in groups to create parties with manifestos. We then has a debate about Zoo’s and whether wild animals should be locked up. We had a fantastic afternoon!

22.03.2019

Today we looked at different resources that we can find information from. We discussed which ones we preferred and why some may not be as reliable. From the information we gathered, we created an informative poster.

08.03.19

We have been focusing on healthy eating and food technology for Health and Wellbeing so we decided to create a food sensory tasting session for primary 3. We chose a menu of 8 items which would have a variety of textures, smells, tastes etc. The Primary 3 class tried each item and had to think of words to describe each of the senses.

07.03.19

Today was World Book Day! To celebrate, we had team challenges where we had to think of as many things within a certain category, within a time frame (for example how many female book characters in 5 minutes!) We also carried out a book scavenger hunt!

We also went down to the nursery to read stories to them as well!

Finally, the whole school attended different reading sessions with their parents. We brought in our favourite book, carried out a book swap with books we no longer needed and read for enjoyment for half an hour.

06.03.19

We have been learning about government and parliament. We were given a variety of statements which referred to a democracy or a dictatorship. We had to work together and decide which heading it would fall under.

04.03.19

Carrick Rugby has started back up and we are loving it! Today we played a variety of skill-building games and had a special focus on tackling safely. Rugby is every Monday so please remember to send us in with old clothes and shoes!

01.03.19

Today we designed our own science experiments to study how temperature causes a reaction to speed up.

We also got our leavers hoodies today!

22.02.19

Today we had an engineer working with ourselves and primary 3. We got to ask him lots of questions about his job. Afterwards we worked in mixed groups creating to do a STEM challenge!

07.02.19

Today we took maths outside. There were a variety of tasks we had to do and time ourselves. We did each task twice and worked out the difference between both times.

06.02.19

We have been researching Bannockburn and had to create a PowerPoint presentation to present to the class. Some even made theirs more interesting by adding a quiz at the end!

31.01.19

Today we had the SSPCA in to talk to us about protecting animals and wildlife. We were challenged to build a robot rabbit and then programme it the way an animal’s fight or flight response would work.

30.01.19

Today we carried out a science experiment to find out how much gas weighed! We had to weight a can of fizzy juice and then shake it until it went flat. We shook it for the same amount of time. Afterwards, we weighed the cans again, and the difference was how much the gas weighed!

We particularly enjoy shaking the cans!!

29.01.19

Our topic is Scotland and today we discussed land use in Scotland. We focused on farms and what local farms required in order for them to function. We then went to ICT and searched Cream O’Galloways farm on google maps and were able to zoom in and see both satellite view and street view. From this we could tell if the farm met all the requirements.

25.01.19

Today we went and performed “Scotland the Brave” to the nursery as they weren’t able to attend our Burns Supper.

21.01.19

We are working hard during their volleyball sessions! We have learned different ways to pass, serving and smashing! We especially love the whole class games!

12.12.18

Today we had to solve different codes in STEM! We had to work together and come up with a strategy to solve the secret codes.

Looks like fun!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

28.11.18

Today we carried out our last experiment for our crime scene. We had found a mysterious white powder in the class and had to identify it. Using sugar, flour and salt, we carried out different reactions to see what happened. We then tested the mystery powder and compared the results to identify it.

26.11.18

We have been learning about different artists and then creating pieces of art based on their work. The latest piece we have been recreating is the “Three Musicians” by Pablo Picasso.

22.11.18

We have started learning more about budgeting our money. This will come in handy when we are older so that we don’t overspend and help us to be more careful with our money.

We were given a challenge; find 10 items which altogether would cost less than £1000. We needed to make sure we didn’t spend over £1000, we had 10 items and calculate the change we would have (if any!) left over. We used the Argos website for this activity.

16.11.18

Today, we were analysing fingerprints. We learned that their are three possible patterns on our fingers; whorls, loops or arches.

We took our own fingerprint to look at and then we looked at the fingerprints found at the crime scene and matched them up to the suspects.

It looks like you are concentrating hard!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

12.11.18

There has been a crime committed in the primary 7 classroom! Miss Sloan has had her fit bit stolen and we have to solve the crime!

Today we collected evidence from the crime scene and talked about possible suspects and motives. We will start analysing evidence on Wednesday.

9.10.18

Today we played quidditch in PE as part of our Harry Potter topic! It was great fun!

Did you have broomsticks?!?!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

3.10.18

Today we had an active schools session for the girls. The boys were left in the classroom and were tasked with designing a boat out of cardboard! They were asked to design a boat which could hold weight on it before sinking! The winning boat had to hold the most weight!

The winning structure held over a massive 1400g!

That’s incredible!  Well done. (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We also were talking about changes in health and well-being. We talked about how change can make us feel and discussed different changes we can and can’t control. Miss Sloan let us choose our own success criteria and based it on how comfortable we felt with sharing these feelings. Some shared with the group and others shared with their partner. We understand everyone goes through changes and that our feelings change as time passes. To illustrate this we drew two faces – how we felt during the change and how we feel now.

20.9.18

We have been talking about relationships in Health and Wellbeing and today we focused on different types of abuse. We had to research different types and what to do if you are being abused on the childline website. With the information we gathered, we made information leaflets.

19.9.18

Today we created and film short scenes for a short film we are making. This months article was number 29 and focused on protecting the environment. We decided to do something different by making a short film!

I’d love to see that!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

18.9.18

We had a very exciting day today!

This morning we went outside to collect resources from our playgrounds. With these resources, we made paintbrushes which will create different textures when we paint with them!

They were strange-looking paintbrushes!  Some looked like weapons!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We also had an energy workshop in the school, brought to us by e-on! It was fantastic and we learned lots of things we can do to save energy!

11.9.18

We have been learning all about monotone art and creating tones within that one colour. Taking inspiration from our topic (Harry Potter), we created our own. We think they look fantastic!

I think you’re right!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

6.9.18

We have been talking about plants as part of our topic. We discussed the things plants need to grow and were learning about a gas called carbon dioxide. We decided to design our own experiments to see how carbon dioxide affected the growth of plants. We set up two experiments where one isn’t exposed to carbon dioxide. It was important that we took into consideration the amount of water and light the plants got and made sure both experiments had the same amount of each.  We are looking forward to monitoring the results in the next few weeks!

29.8.18

Today we took part in active spelling. We practised our words using shaving foam, paint, magnetic letters and oil pastels. It helps us remember how to spell words as it is a more enjoyable way to learn! We are a dyslexia friendly school and know that everyone learns in different ways and by taking out writing with a pencil, we are being inclusive to everyone.

Looks messy!  I’m glad you are enjoying spelling.  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)
