Yesterday we took part in a Big Spring Clean in the village. Everyone helped to pick up any litter  lying around to tidy up the village. Thankfully the sun was shining and we enjoyed being out in the fresh air. The litter collected will be recycled or disposed of by the council Waste Department.

Today we went into our orchard  to see how the trees are pruned. The trees are pruned in Spring to keep them healthy. Sharp secateurs are used to cut the branches so the fruit can grow and ripen. Tiny greenflies were munching the new buds so the gardeners from Skeldon Estate are going to spray the trees when we are on holiday. The gardeners were cutting away the dead parts of the branches. It was like giving the tree a haircut to make it look nice.

In writing today we had to make up rules for a game. We had to read over our work to check it made sense. Then we took our jotters into gym and took turns to read out our rules. Everyone listened carefully. It was great fun playing the games.

Primary 3 were excited to find out if their predictions about whether different fruits would float or sink in water. These photos show them doing the experiment.

28.02.19

We were learning about different food groups. During the Open Afternoon we made Food Mobiles with the help of our parents and other family members. Thank you to all who managed to attend.

On Monday we were doing lots of STEM activities.  As it was nearly Chinese New Year we designed and constructed colourful dragons. We used red and yellow because they are the colours of good luck. We looked at the Dragon Dance and tried to recreate it.

Primary 3 are learning about Scotland this term. We have learned about the different parts – The Highlands and Islands, The Southern Uplands and The Central Lowlands where most people live. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. We used the computers to find out information about famous Scottish people including Robert Burns. Our class chose to learn a poem about an owl and Mrs Turnbull found one called Foo Mony Hoolets. It is a good poem for  actions and expression. We had fun doing ceilidh dancing to Scottish dance music.

Primary 3 and Primary 4 enjoyed their Christmas party on Tuesday. Everyone took part in games, Social Dances and performed their best disco moves. The afternoon went really fast.

You look like you had a wonderful time!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We are getting ready for Christmas. We have made decorations and cards and our classroom is looking very glittery!

Your art work is superb!  Well done.  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

Over the last few weeks Primary 3 have been taking part in gymnastics activities in PE. Everyone has learned how to travel over or along apparatus and do a variety of rolls and jumps. Enjoy looking at some of these photos of their best moves!

I love the action shots P3!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

25.10.18

We really enjoyed learning all about the Rainforests last term. We made animal masks of some of the animals we found facts about and enjoyed acting as them.

Scary animals!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

23.10.18

Today we enjoyed finding out how apple juice is made. It was fun watching how the apples were crushed and then squashed  to make the juice come out. The juice flowed through tubes to the bottling station. Back in the classroom we wrote instructions how to make apple juice from fresh apples and sketched the machinery needed.

Well done!  The juice was delicious, wasn’t it?  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

04.10.18

This week we have been learning about symmetry. Yesterday we went into the playground to see if we could find things which were symmetrical. We worked in groups and recorded what we found on our whiteboards. It was fun learning outside.

It seems like there are lots of symmetrical things in our playground!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

This morning the  girls in Primary 1, 2 and 3 had a fun Active Time in the gym. It is hoped that their enthusiasm for exercise will continue as it is a great way to keep healthy and become interested in sporting activities.

While the girls were being active inside Primary 3 boys were outside in the Poly Tunnel helping to plant winter flowers in the tubs which sit at the Main Entrance. They made a great job and are looking forward to looking after the plants. All are excited to see the different colours of the flowers in the weeks to come.

They look lovely!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

25.09.18

Today Primary 3 were learning about  Plastic Pollution and ways to recycle plastic things using recycling bins. We looked at ways to reduce the amount of plastic thrown away. By making small changes we realised we can all make a difference. Let’s all work together to make the Earth a healthier and cleaner place for everything! Please help to complete the homework sheet as this links to the Rights Respecting Schools Article 29  which we have been concentrating on in September.

14.09.18

Yesterday we enjoyed showing our parents, family members and visitors how good we are at Mental Maths and active number activities. It felt good showing and telling them all about our displays in the classroom.

Thank you to so many visitors for coming in to see us!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

Primary 3 were able to perform a piece with 4 different rhythm patterns.  Fantastic!

Wow!  That was fantastic!  It’s very tricky to keep going with your rhythm when other people join in!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

04.09.18

Today we were learning about Friendships. We wrote about our likes, dislikes and hobbies. Then we talked to each other about them to find out if we have something in common. It was good fun finding things out about others that we don’t normally play with or talk to.

This looks like a fun activity!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)
