Today was a STEM theme day and we were set a challenge to build a bridge which met set criteria.

On our parent’s open afternoon we spent time together learning more about and discussing UNCRC rights.

We have been developing our observation skills through different art activities. We have been focusing on the use of line, shading and colour.

Primary 6 have now met the nursery children they will be buddies with when the come to Primary 1. They spent time together in the ECC chatting and playing. They will be doing lots of things together to help build good relationships before next year.

We have been spending time using our observation skills to explore line, shading and colour. We embarked on some still life picture of flowers and fruit.

We have started playing badminton in PE. We are developing our racquet skills and fast footwork.

Meganlee and Kasey worked very well as a team to build a lighthouse using Lego bricks.

 

As part of British Science Week we made ‘Plastic Milk’

As part of British Science Week we tried to beat the Guinness Book of World Records attempt at building the longest Lego bridge in 3 minutes. Meganlee was the winner with a span of 54.5cm.

Rachelle from the Royal Bank of Scotland came into our class to do a budgeting workshop. We had to plan and work out costs for a party.

As part of British science week we collected natural materials from our garden and built nests.

We have been working in teams to complete maths money challenges.

    Lots of our class came to school dressed as characters from books for World Book Day.

Mr Beattie talked to us about his job making glass bottles, he is an engineer.

Mrs Gough came in to talk to us about her job as a beauty therapist. She talked about her qualifications and what personality you need to have. Mrs Gough told the whole class what equipment she uses. She informed us about budgeting and she also told us that men can do the same job as women. (JHB & SW)

 

          

We had the SSPCA in our class today and we were able to ask them about their job. They talked to us about their job and how they rescue animals. We played a game of snakes and ladders and did a quiz on the big screen. They talked to us about what equipment they use.  (JA & MMC)

 

Today we had Mrs Peacock into talk about her job as a Paramedic. Mr Kerr pretended to be injured and we had to try to save him. We put him on a stretcher with a neck brace. He went on a trolly then we put him in the back of the ambulance. We heard lots of information about being a paramedic. The sirens were very loud. (KK & TM)

Sam’s mum came in to talk to us about her job as a Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Technician. We learned that you have to have a special book for drugs and times of day you take them. You have to be able to see the different markings on the drugs. We also learned about the training and qualifications you need to have to be a Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Technician. Today Jura’s mum ( Mrs Gilbertson) came in to talk about her job as a phlebotomist, she brought in a blood pressure machine and she tested it on Jura first, then anybody else that wanted to see how high their blood pressure was.

Today Kerrie McIlwraith came into our class to talk about her job. She is a hairdresser, she talked about the equipment she uses and what kind of things you need to be good at to get the job. After she was finished we asked her some questions about hairdressing. (MB & JH)

Our new topic is about ‘The world of work’. We are finding out about different jobs and what you would need to do to get different types of jobs.

 

Today PC Woodley spoke to us about his job as a police officer.

This week PC Woodley  came into our class and taught us about what it is like to be a police officer and how to stay safe online and in public. He also told us what equipment he uses and how heavy his uniform is and how long he has to wear it. (LC & MMC)

We celebrated Rabbie Burns’ birthday and explored Scottish culture at a whole school assembly.

Adam, Kasey and Sarra all received a certificate for their ability to recall and recite the poem Twa Dogs.

Kasey was chosen to perform the poem in front of the school. Sarra performed her highland dancing solo for the very first time in front of an audience and impressed everyone with her skill.

Well done, all three of you.  Especially well done to Sarra who was very brave!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We found out about frescos and painted some of our own ….

We got to make plaster then paint on top of it when it was still wet so that when it dries it will be permanent.  (KS)

STEAM ….. we used our knowledge of chemistry to understand why the paintings became permanent.

We were doing up levelling sentences. It helps you to expand your sentences and make them more exiting. First we added adjectives onto the nouns, then we used an exiting adverb as an opener, next we added more info between the commas, finally we added even more info to the end. I think it’s going to help me in my story writing very well. AG

The death of Icarus. We had to illustrate the death of Icarus, son of Daedalus who made wings and flew out of his prison in the maze. Icarus flew too close to the sun and died. We also learned that his wings were made of wax and that’s why they melted. MPM.

Today we learned about the Trojan Horse. We had to illustrate the story in one picture. We learned that the Spartans built a horse and the Trojans found it and they took it into their city and the Spartans were in side and they killed all of the Trojans. JH

Today we learned about the Pandora story. We had to illustrate the story. We learned that Zeus made a woman out of clay and named her Pandora. Zeus gave her a box she wasn’t meant to open it but she did and bad things came out and then a dragonfly of hope.  MMC
