Our Guidelines

Our Curriculum

Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from  ages 3 to 18. Free play has the potential to contribute powerfully and positively to some of the most significant areas of life in schools, nurseries, early years and childcare. Curriculum for Excellence promotes playful learner-led approaches in the classroom and outdoors.

(Play Strategy for Scotland: Action Plan 2013)

In Dalmellington Early Childhood Centre we plan using Curriculum for Excellence Outcomes, taking account of the principles of curriculum design. Our Early Years practitioners allow for personalisation and choice by using children’s planning. This is displayed attractively for children and parents. Children and parents can see how we build on prior learning experiences through displays and Children’s Personal plans.

Realising the Ambition: Being Me National Practice Guidance for early years in Scotland guides us ensuring our experiences, interactions and spaces are high quality, taking account of developmental stages. Individual Care Plans are written, in partnership with children and parents, to ensure needs are met. Care Plans are written within 28 days of a child starting in the ECC and reviewed with parents every 6 months.
