Pattern
We have been exploring pattern this week. We have been copying, continuing and creating our own patterns! Activities this week included – threading beads, pattern cards, stickers, stampers, bingo dabbers.
Bookbug voting
P1 voted for their favourite book from their Bookbug Bag. The children draw their face on a piece of paper and we created a pictograph to record the results.
Addition
P1 have been using lots of practical materials to support them when learning addition. We have been using objects, Numicon, coat hangers and pegs and Rekenreks.
The Great Fenwick Bake Off
P1 have had a busy few weeks with lots of different learning experiences. Here is a snapshot of what they have been getting up to!
The Great Fenwick Bake Off
Pupils worked together to measure ingredients to make some delicious apple muffins for The Great Fenwick Bake Off competition.
Dot Images, Numicon and Teddy Frames
We are learning to recognise dot images. We chose a number card and then used counters to make the dot images.
We rolled dice and had to count the number of dots to work out how many teddies in the ten frames.
We had lots of fun pressing the Numicon into the sand to make different totals.
Numbers in our environment
We looked around our classroom, the school and playground to find numbers. P1 learnt to record their learning by taking photographs on the iPad.
Counting
We were learning to play dominoes. We had to count the dot patterns and match them.
We used 10 frames and we had to put in the counters.
We pressed the numicon into the playdough and made different numbers.
Child 1: “I used a 10 and a 1 and I made 11.”
Child 2: “I used a 4 and 4 and it makes 8.”
Number Tracks
We have had great fun this week using our number track to count forwards and backwards.
Numeracy
Mrs Conetta went on East Ayrshire Numeracy Training and we have been having lots of fun during Numeracy and Free Play exploring the resources.
We love the washing line our janitor, Mr Millar made for us! We have been using it to help us understand before, after and in between.
We have also being exploring measuring things in the classroom using the words long, short, longer, shorter.
