Rainy days 🌧

“It’s raining It’s pouring, the old man is snoring, he went to bed and bumped his head and couldn’t get up in the morning”

Child B

The rain has proved to be the main topic of conversation. We’ve had songs about rain, an audience watching the rain and weather reporters measuring rainfall.

“It’s only at 1”

We played under our yellow roof shelter. Some of the children made an obstacle course. Some used their imagination to build dinosaur habitats and others counted our wind chimes.

We were very lucky to visit the nurture room in small groups. We played emotion games and explored the dark tent and colourful lighting. The children loved this quiet relaxing experience.

Angry face

There was even time for some exercising

Maths and movement

Orbeez kept the children busy all week. There was lots of descriptive language and exploring volume using cups, spoons  scoops and bottles.

“Look it’s full, right up the top”

Maths week.

We began our week with the mathematical language of size. Finding the biggest or smallest shape and ordering items by size.

We used measuring tapes to look for items that were big and small.

“It’s 89 hundred” “That’s really big”

Exploring symmetry proved popular.

“It’s the same”

We scaffolded their learning further by challenging the children to symmetry games on the promethean board.

We made an obstacle course.

Developing the children’s confidence and gross motor skills.

Balancing

Maneuvering over different heights.

Navigating steps and slopes.

Autumnal foraging

An adventure walk around the Estate looking for the perfect berries for our recipe.

“Look at the size of this one”

“This one no ready yet??”

“Wow”

Exploring the signs of Autumn.

There are things that are safe and unsafe to touch or eat.

“They make your tummy sick”

Time to make blackberry crumble and sorbet

Weighing out 500 grams of blackberries/brambles

We had to taste test the berries first of course.

Lemon tasting is fun

“Ilike it” ” it’s disgusting” “it’s sour”

Berrylicous sorbet and crumble

The taste test

The verdict: thumbs up or thumbs down

Celebrating our beautiful Queen

Sharing important news

Some of the children shared their thoughts on the loss of the Queen.

“The Queen is in heaven now”

“I miss the Queen”

“The Queen is up in the sky, BUT! we now have a King Charles….me no a like King Charles”

We thought it would be nice to have a tea party and celebrate the life of the Queen and welcome our new king.

We made cupcakes with Margaret

Exploring the world through our senses

cooperative play with water

There are things that are safe and unsafe to touch.

Some of the children began picking berries from a bush in the garden. A staff member explained that there are berries that are safe to eat and some that are unsafe and could make us unwell.

“The birds like them”

Gloop is the best experience to explore our sense of touch.

“It’s slimy” “it’s like milk”

“It feels hard”

Custard powder makes a yummy smelling gloop.

Pushing your hands and fingers through gloop can help to feel present a sense of relaxation

Threading elastic bands around nails was a little tricky but with perseverance some of the children made shapes with their bands.

We are learning to dress independently

We are following the daily routine.
