Catrine Early Childhood Centre

Today the children had opportunities to explore mud painting, number formation, hanging bird feeders and recreating the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ using masks and props.

On Monday, group 1 returned to P1 for their second visit. This week they spent a lot of time problem solving, co-operating and exploring different ideas with their buddies. They used the wooden blocks to build castles, bridges and chairs.

Super team work!!

 Some of the parents joined us for a story to celebrate World Book Day.

Thank  you to all that helped collect the Vouchers from The Scottish Sun. Our box of books arrived this week.

The children will read and explore the books over the next few weeks.

 

The children have been developing their knowledge on road signs by creating them within the soft surface area also through a variety of road safety games. They have also been learning about being healthy and active through a variety of games and activities

The children in the blue group met Hector the Harris Hawk whilst out a walk in the afternoon, they found out lots of interesting facts on how to look after this animal as a pet.

We have been talking about pets this week in the ECC, we have had discussion times on how to look after our pets and been drawing our pets in the Elmer room.  Thank you for sending in all your lovely photographs of your pets, keep them coming!

The children have been exploring line painting through designing their own roads within the soft surface play area.

Budding builders in the making, designing, measuring, building and great team work evident.

Today Group 3 enjoyed song time with P1, working together to complete jigsaws, creating their coat peg picture and playing with their buddies.

They received a lovely welcome from their P1 friends and their buddies.

 

The children were looking for litter to help keep their village tidy.

We visited Libby Lyle at SLBC LTD , they have very kindly donated safety goggles, measuring tapes and hard hats for the children to use while accessing STEM activities.

Thank you very much from all the children and staff at Catrine ECC. We are all looking forward to using the new resources.

Today group 2 enjoyed their morning in Primary 1.  The ECC children particularly enjoyed visits from their siblings and buddies, as well as creating faces with the stones, designing their coat peg pictures, working together to complete jigsaws and GoNoodle.

Primary 1 children and the buddies were great models and did a fantastic job of encouraging, supporting and including the children from the ECC.

 

Today we had a visit from a local artist Lisa Mair.  She showed us some of her art work and then she spoke about how she draws and paints her pictures. Lisa worked alongside the children as they created their own versions of her work.

 

The  children were asked if they could have a pet what would it be, they then were budding artists. Here is a small selection of work.

“A dog , a llama,  a cat,  a dinosaur,  a rabbit, a horse and a bird” are only a few examples.

Meet Achieving Andy, he will be showing us what it means to achieve our goals and targets.  We would love to hear about achievements from home also.

We have been exploring the jobs and services within our community. In the Caterpillar room, the children have had great fun exploring the roles of the police force through role play.

 

Today was the start of our transition visits to Primary 1.  The ECC children enjoyed exploring the classroom, participating in kids Zumba, designing their own coat peg pictures and drawing with their buddies on the Promethean board.

Primary 1 children and the buddies did an amazing job ensuring the ECC children had a lovely warm welcome and felt included.

 

We have begun exploring our local community as part of our afternoon sessions at the ECC. This week we have had an opportunity to visit The Cotton Trail.  We enjoyed having our afternoon snack of toast and a drink and would like to thank The Cotton Trail for their hospitality.

                    

We are looking at ways to keep our body and minds healthy with Healthy Hannah.  We tried yoga and had lots of fun!

In line with the review of our Vision, Values and Aims, all staff at both Catrine PS and ECC have been involved in updating our Curriculum Rationale. 

Our Curriculum Rationale is unique to Catrine, and it highlights ‘What we want for our children and young people, and how we are going to work together to achieve this’.

All staff were consulted and answers collated to emphasise our priorities to ensure excellence in teaching and learning experiences.
