This week our transition visit had the curricular focus of Numeracy.

All pre-school children met with Mrs Cook, Mrs Schendel and the P6 buddies to engage in number based activities, such as number formation in the foam, dominoes, using cubes to form different shapes, working as a team to order the number line, creating quantities with the tens frame trains and exploring patterns with the compare bears.

We also had a few surprise visitors to the session – some of our children’s older siblings 🤩

  

Today we began our transition journey by meeting with our Catrine Primary School P6 buddies. 🤩

The buddies did a fantastic job of interacting and supporting all pre-school children while exploring the loose parts area within the school playground.

All children were super excited and enjoyed their time with their buddies.

This week the mini- beasts had their second visit to Catrine Primary School.

Last week the sea creatures had their second visit to Catrine Primary School where they met with their buddies for snack and engaged in a variety of activities.

This week the transition visits from ECC to Catrine Primary School began for all children. On Thursday the Sea Creature’s had their first visit.

The pre-school children met with one of their Primary 1 teachers, Mrs Cook. They all engaged in fun learning experiences while the Anti -pre children explored the infant playground and mud kitchen area which will be our outdoor learning space in August.

This week saw the start of our transition visits for all children.

On Tuesday the mini beasts pre – schoolers met with one of their teachers Mrs Ferguson for some fun learning activities while the Anti -pre children explored the infant playground  which will become their outdoor learning space.

Bedtime story

Today the children enjoyed exploring the story We’re going on a bear hunt.

The children also participated in activities such as making bear masks, exploring the sensory tuff tray, re-enacting the bear hunt in the greenspace, creating a story board and pencil control activities.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner ….. It’s time to share some LOVE!!! 

We all did an amazing job of thanking the NHS and keyworkers with rainbows on our windows.

It is time to share some love within our communities. #Sharethelovecatrineecc

• Can you design your own love heart and display it on your window?
• Talk about –  what you think love means, who you love, where you love to go and  what you love to do the most.
• While out your daily walk can you count how many #Sharethelovecatrineecc hearts you see?

Here is another fun numeracy idea for counting, matching and recognising numbers.

• You can use any coloured paper to create your heart template (two sets)
•  Just like dominoes, you can use dots or hearts for the quantity on one set of hearts.
• Then on the other set write the numbers for your child to count & match.

Who ordered pizza?? 🍕

Here is a fun numeracy activity you can create together. This activity is good for counting, number recognition, early foundations for fractions  & subitising (this simply means to recognise a small amount of items without needing to count them)

All you need is cardboard to make the two circle & pens.
You can draw on the circles or use stickers if you have them, I also used bingo dabbers to create dots.

In the examples below we used numbers 1-8, depending on your child’s individual learning stage you can make this activity more challenging by talking about odd and even numbers, go up in 10’s (10,20,30…..), numbers 10 & up and begin to talk about simple fractions,  half & whole, use the pizza slices to create calculations e.g. 2 + 3 = 5

You can include this activity within role play, pretend you are in a cafe, provide your child with paper & pens for taking your order (mark making), you may also want to use money to pay for your order & talk about the different coins.

Can I have a pizza slice with 5 dots?? How much is it for number 3 & 8??

Curricular Areas 

MNU – Exploring numbers, understanding that they represent quantities and can use them to order. Developing an awareness of how money is used. I can match and sort objects/numbers.

LIT – Developing an awareness of when to talk and when to listen, taking turns within play & conversations.

The RSPB big garden Birdwatch is this month. I am excited to see what type of birds visit your garden & also how many birds visit!

This week we linked with Primary 1/2 to celebrate Nursery Rhyme week, together we shared Nursery rhymes and P1/2 surprised us by joining in on our wheels on the bus challenge and created their own bus.

This morning Bubble A had a TEAMS meeting with the children from P1/2.

They enjoyed listening to P1/2 telling them all about what they have been learning at school.

Good morning everyone, I have two tasks to keep you all busy. 🙂

The first task, can you collect flowers/leaves from the garden or whilst out a walk to match/create quantities?
The second task, can you collect some toys or objects and sort them into big, medium and small?

Today we are collecting real food or play food, hiding them around the house/garden for the children to find then decide whether they think the food is healthy or unhealthy.

It might be fun to design your own healthy and unhealthy signs together.

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend.
Where has Mr Golden Sun gone?!☀️

Today we are going to be counting car colours.
Whilst out your daily walk or looking out your window why don’t you record the colour of cars that pass by? (If you don’t have any stickers at home you can draw circles, stars etc, instead.)

At the end of the activity you can count the stickers/drawings/markings to identify the most and least colour of car that you saw.
