School Streets – reminder

Catrine Primary School is part of the “School Streets” initiative. This means the roads around the school will be closed between 8.45am and 9.30am and again between 2.30pm – 3.20pm. on a daily basis (Monday – Friday). This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in the Primary School and ECC, and also helps reduce pollution.

Here is the link to our school street project video – take a look!!

Let’s Go Purple!

Catrine ECC and PS are taking part in Go Purple! Day next Friday, 8th October, for the Ayrshire Hospice.  All funds raised will go to the Ayrshire Hospice.

PS parents can donate via Parentpay and ECC parents can make a cash donation in the collection bucket which will be at the ECC entrance next Friday.

All pupils/children are being asked to wear something purple – purple hat, scarf, socks, t-shirt, badge, hair bobble and it’s a Dress Down Day for the PS pupils too.

House Captains and P7 pupils have organised four House challenges that all pupils, in both the ECC and PS, will take part in throughout the day, so look out for some great photos on GLOW.

Catrine ECC – decant to Catrine PS from August 2021

We are delighted that our ECC is to be refurbished, with work starting during the summer holidays.  To accommodate these updates Catrine ECC will be temporarily based within Catrine PS from August 2021.  Please click on the link for further details:

Letter to parents-carers – Catrine ECC – 22 April 21

We will keep you updated about any further changes, and we have a plan in place for both our ECC and PS children for starting back in August 2021 which we’ll share with you nearer the time.

Scottish Child Payment

Today sees the launch of the Scottish Child Payment – a new benefit from Social Security Scotland that is aimed at tackling child poverty in Scotland.

The new payment will see the equivalent of £10 per week being paid for every child under the age of 6 living in a low income household and receiving a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or one of the legacy benefits (Child tax or working tax credits; income support, income based JSA or income related ESA). The new benefit will be rolled out to every child under 16 by the end of 2022 with payments being made on a 4 weekly basis.

Applications were accepted from November but despite this and a high profile campaign by Social Security Scotland, take up has been disappointing with less than 45% of eligible applications having been made. It is anticipated that there are still around 100,000 children in Scotland who are eligible for this payment but no claim has yet been made. That means a family with two qualifying children could be losing out on more than £1000 per year.

The payments are made 4 weekly and applications couldn’t be simpler. You can apply online at https://www.mygov.scot/scottish-child-payment/how-to-apply/ or by telephone on 0800 182 222.

Congratulations – we did it!

As we finish the end of Week 5 of Home Learning, I would like all parents, carers, grans, papas, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and family members of our pupils to give themselves a well-deserved pat on the back for assisting our pupils and children with their home learning tasks.  We love seeing your photos and videos, and, as always, are impressed by your creativity and enthusiasm for helping your children to learn in these unusual times.

The biggest ‘well done’ needs to go to all of our children at both Catrine ECC and PS – they are coping so well, again, with huge changes to their learning and we are missing them all so much.

With an announcement due on Tuesday 16th February from the Scottish Government about the return details for ECC and Primary 1, Primary 2 and Primary 3 – please continue to check our GLOW blogs and APPS for updates.

Both the ECC and PS are on holiday on Monday 15th, with inservice days on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th so no online learning will be posted on these days.  Class teachers and ECC practitioners will post work on our GLOW blogs from Thursday 18th February.

Wishing all our families and the Catrine community a lovely February break.  As always, take care, stay safe and keep in touch.

Primary 1 Enrolment For August 2021

*REMINDER*

Under the Education (Scotland) Act 1980, children who are five years of age between 1 March 2021 and 29 February 2022, and whose parents wish them to attend school, should register for education during the week commencing Monday 11 January 2021 until Friday 15 January 2021. As a result of the current Covid 19 restrictions and to ensure the safety of all parents/carers and school staff East Ayrshire Council has developed an online registration form.

How to register

East Ayrshire Council P1 registration form will go live on their website on Monday 11 January 2021. Parents/Carers should go to http://eastayrshi.re/enrolAtSchool

If you already have an East Ayrshire Council Customer Account you should select the “login” option. If you do not have a Customer Account you should select the “register” option.

  • the first screen tells parents/carers about the online process
  • the next screen is where you should fill in all the parent/carer details
  • the next screen is where you fill in all of the child’s details
  • the next screen is where you should list an emergency contact for your child
  • the next screen is asking for health and medical details for your child
  • the last screen relates to equal opportunities information

Once all mandatory fields have been completed you will be taken to the “evidence” page. This page requires Parents/Carers to photograph and upload their child’s full birth certificate and two proof of address documents. If you are unable to do this at this point you should click “No”. You will receive an email explaining how this can be done at a later date.

The next screen is where you make the decision whether your child attends Catrine Primary School or you make a placing request.

When the form has been submitted you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your school enrolment application form.

We look forward to receiving the information about our new intake. Please do not hesitate to contact the school for any assistance. I can be contacted at: mary.mcdicken@eastayrshire.org.uk.

With Christmas fast approaching, this year we are more aware than ever of the financial effects of the holiday season on the lives of families in our area.   Some families may feel under pressure to show their appreciation to staff in the school and ECC by buying gifts and presents.

Two years ago the BBC ran a feature about this with the simple message that thank you is enough. We want to share this message with you again this year to reassure any parents/carers that are worried about affording a gift for a teacher/staff member in the run up to the Christmas break.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46580014

So, just a reminder that a thank you or a card, and the thought behind these small gestures, is more than enough for us.

Wishing you all the best this festive season,

Judith Govans
