- A number line is a good visual aid. Ask your child to help you order the numbers. “I need your help to make a number line.” “Do you want to make one on your own?” “0, 1, what number is next?” …..
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar Addition – Example :- “You have 3 pears and add 3 more, how many do you have together?” “Lets count them 3 add 3 equals…” You can use the number line, fingers, Lego bricks, stones etc. To help them work out the calculation.
- Make your own – You can have fun and create your own caterpillar additions. “What do you think the caterpillar would eat if he was in our house?”
- Remember – Relax, this is fun, be in the moment, enjoy this interaction with your child, provide positive reassurance and be very proud of yourself for creating these lovely memories with your child.
