FRACTIONS

The children have been discovering fractions.
They have been watching short animated lessons on the promethean board explaining how fractions work.
The children have also been using different methods and materials to explore this further using play dough and an ice cream game.

Mindfulness

This week we have been focusing a lot on wellbeing, we have enjoyed related stories followed by discussions on feelings and how we can deal with them, the children then drew their “calm place”. We have also had some cosmic yoga sessions and relaxation activities

Birch room week beg- 14/10/21

This week within the playroom we have:

explored pumpkins where we scraped out the inside of the pumpkin  just like our story pumpkin soup and used some golf tees with a hammer to practice our hand eye co-ordination.

we also made some pizza this week where we cut up some vegetables and fruit for some toppings and made our own pizza dough to enjoy

.

we explored some autumn items and made some transient art pictures.

Halloween has arrived at Whatriggs ECC, we have been busy making some of our own decorations in preparation for next weeks Halloween activities. We have also been reading this story to find out about Halloween began.

 

 

 

week beginning 3/10/21

This week within the birch room we have been making our own bread, butter and strawberry jam where we followed instructions and identified some risks.

we have also been making some changes to our garden, we made a den and a ramp to play on for the bikes and scooters.

We are enjoying exploring the Autumn objects that some children have returned  and been using tongs and egg boxes to make patterns and sorting objects

Threading

Some children have been developing their fine motor skills when threading small beads.
Also the children have been exploring name recognition by finding the letters in their names to make a necklace.

Quantity and more or less

We have been developing our understanding of quantity and more/less.

24/9/21

The children were developing their understanding of small quantities of numbers when counting the Pom poms on to the corresponding number plate .  Some children were also developing  their number recognition.

Week Beginning 13/9/21

This week we have had lots of fun in the garden and exploring risky play, we made our own balance beam and see saw. This encourages children to risk assess and make safe choices during play.

Concept cat came back to visit us last week we learned about friends and this week we learned all about new. The children demonstrated a good understanding of these concepts and engaged well in the activities.

We are working on improving our garden area to provide opportunities for the children to explore music, role play, literacy and numeracy in our garden. Keep a look out for some exciting photos.
