Welcome to the New Term

I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff, parents, carers and children for the encouragement I have received on taking up the post of Acting Head Teacher during Mr Forsyth’s secondment. I am genuinely thrilled and excited at the prospect of working with the whole school community for the benefit of the children in Loanhead Primary School.

Further to the staff list issued last week I am delighted to inform you that Miss J Barbour and Mrs M Rutherford (Classroom Assistant) have also joined us.

Our Primary 1 children have made an encouraging start and appear to be settling into the routine of a full day in school. A special thank you to the Primary 7 Buddies who have really helped the Primary 1 children – they are a real asset to the school and should be acknowledged.

We are in the process of confirming event dates and hope to issue you with this information shortly.

While the children have been working hard with Mrs Taylor & Mrs Waugh to raise funds for the school they have also had a focus on reaching out to help others.

They have succeeded in engaging the whole to school to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  The total collected in 5p coins was £545.55.

First Minister Reading Challenge Celebration

On Wednesday 14th June Mrs Waugh & Ms McCulloch will take  a group of 12 children to Edinburgh as Loanhead Primary School has been invited to the First Minister’s Reading Challenge Celebration.  The school has actively participated in this incentive to encourage children to read more and thus raise attainment.  We are thrilled to be have received this invitation!

Many children have enthusiastically participated in Loanhead Primary School Connect 4 Reading Challenge and in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge but unfortunately could not attend the event in Edinburgh.  To celebrate their achievement a ‘Book Bash’ has been organised and children who have achieved their personal target will be invited to the event on Thursday 15th June 2017 at 3-4pm.  The theme is ‘Reading is Magic’.

We are delighted that the staff and children have embraced this programme as we endeavour to raise attainment in literacy.
