Primary 7 and Secondary School

Please find below the letter from Kilmarnock Academy  with regard Secondary School and transition.

Dear parent/carer,

Kilmarnock Academy staff look forward to welcoming P7s into our school as new S1 pupils but we recognise that pupils and parents may be concerned about the current situation and how this may impact on transition into S1. We would like to take this opportunity to reassure you and to remind pupils that transition started in October and that all pupils have heard a great deal about the school in presentations from Mr Rose and myself both in their primary schools and at our information evening in Kilmarnock Academy back in December. And who can forget our excellent P7 Science day in February where all P7s spent an exciting and fun day in the Science department.

The prospect of not having our 3 transition days in May is possibly worrying some people and we will share information regarding the 3 day visit as soon as we can. In the meantime, we want to reassure you that we are working very hard to welcome you into S1. I have had feedback from every P7 teacher in every school and I am working hard to arrange our S1 classes. Please remember the promise you were made – you will all be in a class with someone you know from your primary school.
We will be sending out information in June which will give you your S1 class, your S1 timetable and a map of the school. When you start S1, we will ensure lots of supports are in place including S6 guides to help you find your way and earlier intervals and lunches.
We recognise that starting S1 is a major milestone for pupils and parents and that this year our P7s face a unique challenge. However, Kilmarnock Academy has a hugely experienced and skilled Pupil Support team who will support pupils every step of the way. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have questions or concerns: Claire.Wallace2@east-ayrshire.gov.uk
Yours sincerely
Claire Wallace
