Mr P Gilchrist – Head Teacher
The Head Teacher is responsible to the Head of Service for East Ayrshire Council for the educational philosophy of the school, and for overall policy, organisation and administration. As Head Teacher, he is involved directly, either in a supervisory or consultative role, in all the duties that follow. In particular the Head Teacher is responsible for overall school discipline, the School Improvement Plan, Partnership with Parents, School Finance, Curriculum Planning, Target Setting and Monitoring Pupil Attendance. The Head Teacher also links with the Home Economics and PE/Music department.
Mr P McGurn – Depute Head Teacher (Lochlea)
Mr McGurn leads the Pupil Support Team which encompasses Guidance, Learning Support, the Looked After Children and the PSE programme. He oversees the work of the ESB and Nurture programme and undertakes the School Assessment Team and Community Assessment Team planning. Further responsibilities include the Rights Respecting School initiative, Primary Transition programme and Personal Learning Planning programme. His remit also includes the S6 Mentoring programme, attendance and registration, pupil profiles and the S1 sustainable development Inter-disciplinary project. Mr McGurn links with the Modern Languages and Pupil Support departments.
Mr M Robertson – Depute Head Teacher (Afton)
Mr Robertson has responsibility for the options programme, school timetable and daily absence cover. He co-ordinates the Wider Achievement Awards, college link programme, careers programme and also oversees the Developing the Young Workforce, Flexible Pathways Initiative and Business Enterprise. He is responsible for excursions, learning outdoors, Evolve and the school website. His remit also includes ICT, Health & Safety, the inventory, work experience and school transport. Mr Robertson liaises with the Business and Computing Science, Art and Design, Mathematics and School of Rugby Departments.
Mrs V Grove – Depute Head Teacher (Mossgiel)
Mrs Grove is responsible for the Staff Leadership and development programme including students and newly qualified teachers. She is also responsible for Skills Development including Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing across the Curriculum. Her remit includes Quality Assurance, Learning and Teaching Strategies, homework (including Show My Homework), supported study, House assembly themes and the Religious Observance Programme. Her post also includes the Prefect and School Captain selection process, co-ordination of learning councils, the Employability programme and the S2 Natural Disasters Interdisciplinary Project. Mrs Grove links with the PE and Science departments.
Mrs J Macara – Depute Head Teacher (Ballochmyle)
Mrs Macara is responsible for the SQA exam planning including the prelims and SQA verification. She has responsibility for raising attainment including results analysis, the S5 Mentoring programme, overview of results, the senior phase assessment calendar and target setting and mentoring. She is involved in our parental partnerships including the Parent Concil, information evenings and focus groups. Her remit includes responsibility for prizegiving, the Broad General Education assessment and moderation, the S1 Scotland Interdisciplinary Project and the Handbook. Mrs Macara links with English and Home Economics.
