Rugby Trip

Thirty-six Auchinleck Academy pupils enjoyed live international Rugby on Sunday 15th February as Scotland took on Wales in a very tight and tense game which saw the visitors win narrowly 26-23. The pupils got to watch as both teams got off the bus and entered the stadium. The atmosphere was electric with the whole group, teachers included getting the fright of their lives when the pre-game fireworks were set off. Overall everyone enjoyed the day and the staff are already starting plans for the next Rugby trip.

February is Literacy Month

‘Literacy Month’ at Auchinleck Academy will see pupils participate in a range of activities in order to develop and reinforce their literacy skills. Pupils will participate in activities throughout the school with this level of engagement providing a deeper insight into the importance of literacy. Literacy is fundamental to all areas of learning as it increases opportunities for the individual in all aspects of life, lays the foundations for lifelong learning and work, and contributes strongly to the development of all four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence. Therefore, the literacy experiences within Auchinleck Academy promote the development of critical and creative thinking as well as competence in listening and talking, reading, writing and the personal, interpersonal and team-working skills which are so important in life and in the world of work.

Technical Trip

New Forth Bridge (Queensferry Bridge) Replacement Crossing Trip

On Tuesday 9th December thirty three senior Technical Education pupils visited the new Forth Bridge Education Centre at South Queensferry. The objective was to experience a “live” major civil engineering project while stimulating interest in design, engineering and architecture.

After an informative presentation on the bridge construction pupils were given a design challenge to produce a bridge structure spanning over 7 metres in length and over 2 metres in height.

Auchinleck Academy pupils excelled in this task and produced a high quality bridge structure within the given time constraints. The organisers in fact said that Auchinleck Academy were the best group they had ever had at successfully completing this exercise!

An interesting and enjoyable experience for all.
