Kirkcolm Primary School

Today the whole school enjoyed outdoor learning day with their lunch outdoors. 

A take away lunch was enjoyed, with ice lollies kindly provided for after by Ann Marie.  What fun they had on their picnic lunch!

Miss Parrott and her class took their science learning and teaching today outside. 

In  glorious sunshine the children learned a lot more about the changes of states.  It is maybe just as well they were outside for this experimental work as it did get a bit messy – and in fact you will see from the photographs there was also a change in state of some of their school uniforms!

 Primary 1 and 2  have been learning about the story of Moses for Religious and Moral Education (Judaism). We paired up and wrote our 3 favourite parts of the story, then had a game of charades where we had to act out the three scenes and the class had to guess what part of the story was being told.

It was a lot of fun!

Primary 1 and 2 have been taking advantage of the sunshine this week to take their maths learning outdoors.  As part of their work on time, Miss Easton had the boys and girls consolidating their learning and getting some exercise while they played a clock face based game.

Primary 3,4 and 5 recently enjoyed a trip into the Tesco store in Stranraer.  While they were  there the children got to see behind the scenes – including the bakery, offices and canteen.  And, on the shop floor they had a bit of “supermarket sweep” style fun, grabbing items off the shelves and having a go as a checkout operator – scanning items and analysing the receipts.   The boys and girls even got some tasty nibbles to enjoy.

This trip helped them learn more about food production and how it is subsequently passed on to the customer through retail premises.

Our footballers had the opportunity yesterday to get up close with the SPL trophy, as part of a football festival organised by Allan Jenkins.  The team also had the chance to pull on their brand new strips and play several games, supervised and coached by Mr Robert Agnew.  As one member of the team said, “they are lucky strips” – as they never lost a game!

Kirkcolm Primary school is Situated in the village of Kirkcolm, near Stranraer.  It currently has 3 classes and 53 pupils. 

From April 2017 the Headteacher will be Mrs Sheila Baillie.  Kirkcolm Primary school is in partnership with both Leswalt and Portpatrick Primary schools – forming the North Rhins partnership.  From August 2017, Mrs Nicola Henry will be Principal teacher across the partnership.
