Term 3 Food and health with Mrs Clanachan

In food and health skills academy on week 1 they were choosing what they wanted their diner to be, they chose an American diner as well as this they did a poster of all the foods they wanted in their diner. In week 2 they went onto the computers to do online shopping but didn’t buy anything because they had a budget of £50  so they created a list of all the things they wanted but staying in the budget.  During week 3 in food and health they were learing all about bacteria and germs and they did an experiment on how people pass on germs really easily.  On week four the skills academy group did a risk assessment for their diner and allergies. Mrs Clanachan wrote a list so they could try all the foods that she wrote down. During the fifth week they had their taste test afternoon. There was kiwi, spicy  cheese, pea snacks, mango, avocado, guacamole, humus and carrots. The last week it was their diner week and they had smoothies, popcorn, tortilla chips, dip, chicken wings and bagels. The lower food and health skills academy  came along but before they came along p4/7 had to decorate the classroom to make it look all American so they put on songs and made table cloths for the tables . People had serving jobs, waiter jobs, welcoming jobs and cleaning up  jobs. Here are some photos

Author Visit To Nursery!

On Thursday 28th March, we were very lucky to have the author, Vivian French visit us in nursery in partnership with Big DoG Dumfries Children’s Book Festival that is happening this weekend and read us two of her books as well as teaching us some new songs.

She read us Captain Crankie and Seadog Steve and then Billy Hippo Learns to Swim.

We enjoyed both of these books and Vivian was really good at keeping us entertained and engaged.

Thank you to Vivian French and the Big DoG Dumfries Children’s Book Festival. The children brought home leaflets about the Big DoG Dumfries Children’s Book Festival, so have a look and see what’s on this weekend!

Term 3 Skills Academy with Mrs Sim

In skills academy our group was Community. First we made posters and leaflets about the drop off  zone then we put them up around the front of the school.

After that we all made bug hotels. We made them by cutting the bottom and the top off the milk carton then we rolled the newspaper up and put them inside to make little rooms for the bugs. Then we made bird feeders by melting butter to fat then getting rice krispies and mixing it together and putting them in yoghurt pots. Then we froze them for the nature garden the next week.

Term 3 Creativity with Mrs Boyd and Miss Morton

In Creativity they were working on their Drama skills.

On the first week they were doing some drama games. The class learned communication skills. They used this vital skill when playing warm up drama games, writing scripts and even hot seating !

One of the other skills used was Team Player. Yet again this skill is vital in drama and a lot of other things as well. Being part of a team was very important as they all had to contribute ideas, this skill also links in with communication. They showed being a team player when writing a script and also following a script and organising who all the characters etc. were!

One of the other very important skills was Motivation. Motivation was shown when others weren’t that keen on showing and performing in front of the class. This meant that you would have to respect that they don’t want to but also make sure and motivate them and make sure they are determined.

The most important skill was CONFIDENCE !

Confidence was used when they were…

  1. Performing in front of a class
  2. Hot Seating
  3. Playing games out of comfort zone
  4. Doing silly things for fun games

This could be really hard for some people but yet they PULLED THROUGH !

Everyone in the skills academy really enjoyed their 6 weeks and hope to have something similar to it again !
