Term 2 in P5/6

Term 2 in Primary 5/6 has been incredibly enriching, with many enjoyable and interactive learning experiences. Throughout this term, the children have actively engaged in various hands-on activities that sparked their curiosity and fostered a sense of collaboration. The classroom has transformed into a vibrant, dynamic environment where students feel encouraged to share ideas and participate in discussions. From group projects promoting teamwork to creative assignments allowing personal expression, the children have greatly benefited from these stimulating activities, making learning fun and impactful.

This term, the class has concentrated on developing specific meta-skills. These include focusing skills demonstrated through their CYPIC writing, effective communication and collaboration during group tasks, and creativity and critical thinking through challenging concepts. Additionally, they have employed a variety of techniques to solve problems.

We are looking forward to term 3 next year!

Merry Christmas and a Happ New Year from all in Primary 5/6.

P5, P5/6 and P6 Christmas Party

The Primary 5, 5/6, and 6 classes came together for a fantastic end-of-term party filled with joy and excitement. The atmosphere was lively as students engaged in a variety of games that sparked friendly competition and laughter. Their energy was infectious as they danced to upbeat music, showcasing their best moves on the dance floor. Many joined in singing along to their favourite songs. Overall, it was a fantastic celebration as they wrapped up the term.

Welcome Back – Term 2

Last week was filled with interactive and fun learning opportunities. The class learned how to take notes, discuss their understanding of their note-taking with others, and how to communicate with others. The class also participated in two pupil-led meetings on how they think fair play can be facilitated both in class and on the playground. With the new addition of the toy box, the class has taken time to learn how to play respectfully with their classmates and other members of the school environment. The class has also started taking ownership roles within the class through the form of class helpers, which they are actively engaging in. The use of manipulatives to help aid the understanding and consolidation of learners has also been welcomed, and this will continue throughout term 2.

Here is a lovely range of photos the children and I have taken over the last week to show their learning.

Term 1 Learning

A Term of Learning and Growth

Online Safety

Our online safety lessons have helped the class take their first steps into the digital world. They’ve learned the importance of safe online behaviour, the importance of creating and keeping passwords safe and secure, and the value of responsible internet use.

NSPCC Stay Safe Campaign

The NSPCC Speak Out, Stay Safe campaign has been a powerful tool in teaching the class about personal safety. We’ve discussed body boundaries, healthy relationships, and how to seek help if they feel unsafe.

Maths Week Scotland

Maths Week Scotland was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the joy of mathematics. Our class engaged in fun activities that helped them develop their problem-solving skills and appreciation for the subject.

Food Chains

In science, we’ve delved into the fascinating world of food chains. The class has learned about how energy flows through ecosystems and the impact that would occur if a level in the food chain is removed.

New Writing Framework

The introduction of the new writing framework (CYPIC Writing) has given our writing a new dimension. The class has been exploring accurate punctuation, its impact on the reader, and how to be successful in learning to self- and peer-assess writing work. We have looked at narratives and recounts this term.

Pointillism and the Colour Wheel

In art, we’ve been experimenting with different techniques, including pointillism. The class learned colour theory and how to create vibrant and expressive artworks.

Number Processes and Data Handling

Our numeracy lessons have focused on developing a solid understanding of number processes and data handling. Pupils have been practising mathematical strategies, place value, rounding and learning how to collect, analyse, and interpret data.

This term has been filled with exciting learning opportunities for our class, including celebrating International Older Persons Day. We look forward to incorporating further pupil-led learning into term two.
