Primary 3 term 2

Primary 3 continue to develop their meta-skills across the curriculum. Great skills shown during our Creative Dance sessions!

Finn “I collaborated with my team to make up a very good dance. We started in a circle, jumped away from each other, tiptoed  into a line and the we copied the dance moves of one of our team. We then switched the leader.”

Ben “I communicated with my team. I listened and told ideas to my group so we could use them to create a dance to Ghostbusters.”

   

   

   

STEM Challenges

Amyra “I collaborated with my team to make a hut at least 12cm tall and it had to stay standing after a wind storm.”

Finn ” Our group added a working door and it did not fall down. It stayed still for over 5 seconds.”

   

Children in Need Day

Esme “We gave donations towards Children in Need. We coloured our own Pudsey t-shirts.”

Visit to Lochthorn Library

Amyra “At the library, we got to pick our own books to take home if we had our library card.”

Jack “I illustrated a chapter from The Twits in my diorama. It showed Muggle-Wump thinking of the idea of the Hugtight Sticky Glue and making the Twits go upside down.”

Amyra “I made my diorama showing Mrs Twit floating off to space.”

Zoe “On Remembrance Day, we focussed to draw the poppies in our art. We listened to the poem by John McCrae.”

Euan “I used my creativity and focussing skills to make a Nutcracker and the Mouse King in a snowy wood.”

 

 

 

Primary 3 term 1

Primary 3 developed their meta skills during a range of teambuilding tasks.  Pupils collaborated, communicated, used their creativity and many developed their leadership skills.

Cross the Swamp Teambuilding Challenge!

Zoe “I communicated with my team to get to the other side of the swamp.”

Honor ” I listened to other ideas in my team to get across the swamp.”

   

   

STEM Challenges!

Euan “I adapted when I was working on the STEM challenge Rock and Roll. I improved how sturdy the rollercoaster was.”

Max “I collaborated with my team to build a bridge which was strong and did not fall down”

   

   

   

Fitness Group Challenge!

Paige “I communicated with my team to make up our own fitness routine.”

Ben “I was leading my fitness group and made sure they were doing the right thing and joining in.”

   

Literacy and Numeracy

Esme “Isla and I were helping each other with our Literacy work.”

STEM Career Visits

STEM Career Visits

We had amazing visits by family members to share information about STEM Careers. We were particularly interested in hearing how the meta-skills we develop in STEM Challenges are applied in the workplace.

I can describe some of the kinds of work that people do and I am finding out about the wider world of work.   HWB 1-20a

Telecommunications Engineer with Open Reach

Harry – “I learned that a Telecommunications Engineer has to adapt to the weather, especially the high winds.”

Amelia W – “I want to explore electricity just like my dad.”

Isla Mar. – “I learned that Amelia’s dad leads 27 other workers and checks that they are all safe.”

Fergus – “I learned that the rats can cause problems with the cables.”

Working on a sailboat

Isla Mel. – “I learned that you use creativity on a sailboat. You work out how to make dinner when it’s bumpy weather.”

Fergus – “I would be interested in working on a sailboat when I’m older because it is fun and you always go on new adventures.”

Maisie  – “I liked trying on the life jacket. It had a whistle on it to call for help.”

National Gas – Operations Manager and a Technical Admin.

Aurla – “I found out that a Technical Admin. communicates with the helicopter pilot and then she sends out a technician to check the digging.”

Vincent – “I learned about methane and how cows have this gas too!”

Maxwell – “I learned that some underground pipes are so huge that people can walk through them.”

Taylor – “I learned that National Gas work with Health and Safety people including the emergency services.”

Dairy Scientist and Senior Scientist Vet Lab

Lucy – “A Dairy Scientist uses focusing skills when using a microscope to check animal samples.”

Sofia – “After learning about STEM Careers, I would be interested in becoming a Dairy Scientist when I’m older because I would like to help the cows get better too.”

Ritchie – “I learned that Mrs Porter has led other people in her job. She has advised people about fungus and trained farmers and other microbiologists.”

Duty Officer at the Ice Bowl

Blaine – “A Duty Officer has to adapt when the weather changes outside.”

Harry – “I learned that a duty officer communicates with schools, Cafe staff, young farmers and lots of other people at the Ice Bowl.”

Lucy – “Mackay’s dad leads other Duty Officers and Leisure Attendants.”

Amelia W – “I was surprised to learn that someone paints the lines on the ice at the Ice Bowl.”

Mackay – “I would be interested in becoming a Duty Officer when I’m older because I would get to drive a Zamboni and be in charge of other people.”

Trainee Pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician

Isla Mar. – “A Pharmacist has to adapt to the patients. They might use easier language when speaking to older people.”

Harris – “A Pharmacist, Technician and Support Worker all communicate with each other.”

Mirrin – “I would like to use a robot to get the medicine for people at the hospital. ”

Another busy term!

Stop-Motion Animations – RME Values in stories

Primary 3 applied their skills in using the Stop-Motion Studio app and used their creativity to plan and create their own animations retelling their chosen Bible Story.  Primary 3 developed a range of meta-skills during this challenge. Amazing work everyone!

Mirrin – “We had to focus to match the fractions.”

Vincent – “We worked together to make the hopscotch grid then we used our times tables to play the game.”

Investigating electrical circuits

Ritchie – “We concentrated when trying to light a bulb.”

Harry – “Harris and I worked hard to make our own fan and made it spin. We coloured a pattern on the paper to make an illusion as it was spinning. We were able to make the fan spin in two directions.”

Fergus – “I investigated how many different ways I could light the bulb.”

Kyle – “I enjoyed investigating if materials were conductors or insulators.”

Internet Safety Day

Maisie W – “In the game, we had to sort the pictures to show information that is safe to share online and information that we should not share when we are online.”

Fergus – “The digital leaders reminded us about the different ways to keep safe online.”

Create a Circuit Game Challenge!

Ritchie – “I worked with Mackay and Kai to make a game to spin a motor.  The fan then blew the ball down the tube to win the game.”

Harry – “Daltyn and I created a game together. You had to roll the dice and collect the matching component. The winner was the first person to make a complete circuit.”

Kyle – “I collaborated with Blaine to make a motor spin and blow the ball the furthest distance to win.”

Leading Learning!

Sofia – “In our game you had to spin a motor and collect something with that colour from around the classroom. You had 10 seconds to do this. The Primary 1/2s liked playing our game.”

Kyle – “I liked teaching Primary 1/2 how to make their own circuit. They were good at listening to me.”

Isla Mar – “The younger children enjoyed playing our game. They had to use the metal hook to move around the metal wire without buzzing it. It was quite tricky.”

Harry “I learned that there are different layers to your skin.”

Vincent “I leaned that a baby has more bones than an adult body. An adult has 206 bones.”

Sofia “I learned that your skin is an organ.”

Fergus “We wrote our own Senses poems about Winter.”

Maisie W “In our party, we played musical corners and the elimination card game.”

Harry “We also played other games like musical arms and the game where we chose Christmas tree, Christmas pudding or Santa actions.”

Lucy “I liked adding the actions for ‘Winter Wonderland’.”

Taylor “I enjoyed playing the triangle in ‘Winter Wonderland’.”

Ritchie “I felt confident speaking my part at the Christmas Show.”

Isla Ma “I was focusing to make sure I rang the bell at the right time during the song ‘Must be Santa’.”

Freddie “I liked singing the songs on stage.”

 

 

 

A busy term 1

Isla Me – “It was hard to choose which book to take home as they were so many to choose from.”

Harry – “I was looking for joke books because Halloween is coming soon.”

Kai – “I was the leader of a long line because I won the game each time.”

Fergus – “We had to try and win the rock, paper, scissors game to get people in our line.”

Mirren – “I was surprised when it was my birthday and I looked at the presents I got.”

Gracie – “I feel loved when my Mummy, Daddy and dog hug me and kiss me.”
