Term 3 in Primary 2!

We have been busy learning lots of new things in Primary 2 this term.

We have done lots of work in Literacy and are enjoying reading lots of new stories.

We like reading different books by ourselves and sharing stories with a partner.

We are getting better at our spelling and practise spelling our tricky words in lots of different ways.

We are also learning about new sounds and like to learn new words with these sounds in them.

We have been learning lots of new skills when we are reading and we like asking our friends questions about what we are reading. We are also learning to predict what we think will happen and summarise what has happened in the story.

This term we have been learning about the famous Scots poet, Robert Burns. We enjoyed drawing a silhouette portrait of Robert Burns and learned how to draw a tartan pattern.

We have also been learning about symmetry this term and drew pictures with a line of symmetry. We then went outside to look for symmetry all around us. We are also learning to find missing numbers up to 100.

We are learning about healthy foods and can sort different foods. We enjoyed going shopping to buy healthy foods!

In skills academy we have been learning all about design and creativity. We have made very special cushions where we had to draw the template and cut it out very carefully!

We had lots of fun making Valentines Cards to send to someone special!

Term 3 in Primary 4!

Term 3 in Primary 4 has got off to a very busy start.

We have been working on developing our writing skills and focussed on writing instructions. One of the pieces of writing we completed was How To Take Care of a Penguin. We then added some art work to support our writing.

We have now moved on to persuasive writing and one of the pieces of writing involved us designing our own super gadget. We had to think about the different features of our gadget and then complete a piece of writing persuading people to buy our gadget. Our writing had to include facts and opinions.

In maths we are continuing to learn our times tables and the division facts of these tables. We are also working on time and area. We went outside to calculate the area of different objects we can find in nature.

This term we have been learning about Robert Burns. We have learnt about his life and some of the poems and songs he wrote. We wrote out part of My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and then made a picture with red roses. We have looked at different Scots words and created a pop art picture with these. We also learnt how to draw and paint tartan patterns.

We also finished some work on looking at festivals from other world religions.

In P.E we have been working on our tennis skills and trying to improve our stamina when running the daily mile.

In Health and Wellbeing we have been looking at the positive qualities we all possess and shared the positive qualities which our classmates have.

We are very lucky this term that Feis Rois are coming into the school to teach us about Scottish music and we have been playing instruments and learning some Scots songs.

In Skills Academy we have been working on food and nutrition and have been thinking about how to create a healthy balance diet.

Tuesday 8th February was Internet Safety Day and we learnt about how to stay safe when using the internet. Our Digital Leaders, Will and Abigail talked to use about how we should behave when we are online.

It has been a really busy term so far and we’re only half way through!

Internet Safety Day

Heathhall Primary School signed up to be part of Internet Safety Day on Tuesday 8th February. Throughout the school the children were participating in activities related to staying safe.

Nursery

The nursery also took part in Internet Safety Day and  Sophie said ‘I play safe games’

Primary 1

Alex, our Digital Leader, helped us with our learning. He told us we have to ‘Be Safe, Be Smart, Be Kind’. We also read a story about Smartie the Penguin to help us learn about staying safe online. It had a special rhyme to help us remember what to do…
‘Before you tap and click, you need to stop and think…and tell someone!’

Primary 2

For Internet safety Day we read a story all about staying safe when we are on computers. We then sang a song about staying safe. We also worked with a partner to think about what it is safe to share online and what we should keep private.

Primary 3

P3 have been learning how to stay safe online when playing games.  They were also given advice from the Digital Leaders about what to do if they are feeling unsure when playing online.

The class also talked about keeping their passwords and personal information private.

Primary 4

Today is Safer Internet Day 2022.  We talked about what you need to do to stay safe on the internet.  We discussed what information is safe to share online and we talked about the message for Safer Internet Day 2022.  We thought about all the ways we can show respect when we are playing other people on games online.  Mrs Boyd gave us scenarios that could happen and different responses to these.  We worked in pairs to pick something we would do if the event happened to us and what we wouldn’t do.

Primary 4/5

P4/5 discussed gaming as it was the most popular way in which we used the internet. We knew many of the ways to safe and discussed them.
We had lots of stories to share and advice to give.

Primary 5/6

The Digital Leaders gave the class a presentation followed by a quiz to check they had learned about Safer Internet Day. The class completed a word search using words linked to internet safety.

Chloe – I learned the theme is fun and games.

Isla – I learned Safer Internet Day happens in 170 countries

Shubhra – I was reminded to block people if I need to.

Lacey – I was interested to learn how many people use the internet around the world and was also reminded to tell an adult if something is worrying me.

Primary 6/7

We completed a safety quiz for using the internet. We then worked in pairs to create an information poster. We had to decide whether it was for an infant or upper class. We are going to display them around the school.

Primary 7

For Safer Internet Day Primary 7 have learned about what information should be private and public. We watched a video on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and discussed what advice to give to others to stay safe online. We then created a poster about internet safety and important ways to stay safe online.

Term 2 in Primary 4

Primary 4 have been very busy so far this term.

We practised for our skipathon and raised lots of money. Some of us were really good at skipping and some of us had to try really hard. We enjoy skipping at break and lunch time now!

For Children in Need we took part in the Joe Wicks workout. We were allowed 3 ‘Yes’ questions for the teacher so we got to watch a movie with a snack. We also were allowed to come dressed as we pleased.

We have been learning to use Coding. We put a code into the mice and Botleys to help them reach a target.

We made felt pouches in Skills Academy. We found it really fun and interesting but parts of it were tricky.
