Maths Roadshow

As part of Maths Week Scotland we had a visit from the Maths Roadshow. We visited different stations around the room solving different kinds of maths puzzles. – Lucy

We had to use our problem solving skills to put the puzzles together and work them out with a partner. – Sonny

I thought it was a great opportunity to be able to take part in this and most people really enjoyed it. _ Lyla

It was a fantastic experience. Some of the puzzles were really challenging and some of them were easier to solve. – Corey

It was really fun and we got to develop lots of different problem solving strategies.- Corrie

Getting Started in Primary 7!

Primary 7 have made a great start to this school year.

Everyone is looking very smart and we are all eager to learn!

Leah and Reuben were voted in as our Pupil Councillor and Vice Pupil Councillor for this year.

We showed the P1s how to use the playground toys properly.  We played games with little groups of children and gave them ideas on what they could do. We developed our creativity, leadership and team-player skills. We felt good doing this. -Isla

During the open afternoon there were several different stations for people to complete different challenges. Some of the activities were building a bridge using cardboard and Make Do materials, transferring water along a straw pipeline, programming the Botleys and coding the MicroBits. We developed our designing and creativity skills. It was a really fun afternoon. -Arran

During the first couple of weeks we got to know one another. We complimented each other’s strengths and got to find out al about each other.  We set targets for the year ahead and at home we created a poster to share important information about ourselves. We developed our creativity, caring and communication skills. The first couple of weeks helped us feel comfortable in class.- Shubhra.

We have been completing a variety of different pieces of writing. We created a Recipe for the Perfect Summer which consisted of everything we did during the summer. We also wrote about what our Perfect Classroom would be like and we researched the life of Queen Elizabeth II in order to write a biography.  We developed our creativity, research and writing skills. The writing has been fun. – Grace

In P.E we have been learning different sports. We have learnt to play disc golf, chicken hero and football. Everyone shared their thoughts and ideas on the new games. We developed our teamwork and leadership skills. It was really fun learning new games. -Kallan

In skills academy we learnt all about the different types of engineering. We had to design our own way of transporting an egg down a zip line using only certain materials.  We had to test our design and then adjust our design. We developed our team player and creativity skills. It was a good experience. – Leah

Digital Schools Award for Heathhall School

On  Tuesday 28th June 2022 Heathhall Primary School were awarded their Digital Schools Award!

Digital Schools Awards is a national awards scheme to promote, recognise and encourage a whole school approach to the use of digital technology in schools. Schools that successfully complete the programme receive a nationally recognised award by Education Scotland.

In order to achieve this award the school has worked very hard at incorporating Digital technologies across all areas of the curriculum. During the validation interview it was commented that ‘Digital technologies are used to enhance and extend learning experiences and to foster independent learning within and beyond the school.’ It was noted that Young Digital Leaders were able to enhance pupil and staff confidence and that the school worked well at enhancing digital communication with parents and the wider community.

While working towards the award the Young Digital Leaders at Heathhall have developed their digital literacy skills and have shared this with other pupils and teachers across the school. They have developed their knowledge and understanding of different software used throughout the school and have enjoyed experimenting with new resources which have been acquired.

Heathhall Young Digital Leaders

Heathhall Primary School gives children in the Upper School a chance to become Young Digital Leaders.

As Young Digital Leaders we are here to help children and teachers learn more about technology. We teach a wide range of skills in ICT.

To be a Young Digital Leader, we must complete an application form on why we would like to be a Digital Leader, what experience we have had before with computers that would make us a good Digital Leader and strengths and skills we have that can help us in this job. After a discussion with our teachers, we vote for who we believe should be the Young Digital Leaders for the year.

The Young Digital Leaders attend an after-school club with Mrs Brown to learn new skills and work with new resources. This can range from Scratch, all the way up to various Microsoft applications and computer robots such as Botleys and Move Minis.  The Young Digital Leaders then prepare lessons and take the place of the teacher to teach the class a new skill. They are then able to work alongside teachers to develop everyone’s skills.

Our aim is to help people get better and enjoy ICT as much as we do.

Heathhall’s Got Talent 2022!

This afternoon the whole school joined together to enjoy watching Heathhall’s Got Talent!

It was a fantastic afternoon with lots of talent on show from dancing to baton twirling to gymnastics to comedy to singing and playing musical instruments.

It was great to see everyone performing so confidently. A big well done to the House Captains for organising the show!

The judges had a very hard task to decide the winner!

Eventually it was decided that the runner up was Ezmae in P2 with her dance routine!

And the winner was Piper in P5 with her baton twirling!!!

A HUGE WELL DONE to everyone who took part!

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Heathhall Primary School recently celebrated The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

During Jubilee week each class learnt about the role of the Queen and major events which have happened during the Queen’s reign.

Every class enjoyed activities such as flag making, designing their own crown, baking and creating art work based on the Queen.

It was lovely to see such great community spirit across the school and this was finished off by an outdoor picnic lunch for the whole school followed by traditional class games.

We were very lucky to see a fly past of 4 Hurricane planes during our lunch which created lots of excitement for the children and a lovely lasting memory!

Queen of The South Visit!

Today we had a visit from The Queen of the South Elect, the Cornet, Cornet’s Lass and other Principals.   All classes and the nursery joined us in the sunshine to see the Principals.   The children enjoyed cheering them on and particularly enjoyed the special horse races!

Winners of the Guid Nychburris Handwriting competition also received their prizes

Our own attendant, Gabby, was presented with a little gift from the school and we would like to wish her luck and hope she has great fun on Saturday as she represents Heathhall School! Good Luck and we hope the sun keeps shining!
