Green-fingered successes!!

We have been having huge successes in our School Garden and Playground.

Last session’s P3,4,5 class found out some fantastic news this morning..they have won the Grow Your Own Potatoes initiative competition with the heaviest crop and largest tuber from all Western Scotland schools. The boys and girls will be awarded with a beautiful rainbow Buddy Bench, which will be wonderful for all the playground improvements that we have planned.  The bench will take pride of place somewhere of their choice, so look out for it appearing in our playground soon. Huge congratulations everyone!Buddy-bench-920x600

Before the summer and during the summer break a group of pupils tirelessly tended to their garden, preparing the ground, planting seeds and regularly watering all the vegetables, plants and flowers. The playground has never looked so colourful! Due to their careful attention, the Gardening Club were able to add their very first entry into the Glenkens’ Flower and Vegetable show last Saturday. Amazingly the Gardening Club were awarded 3rd place for their green beans, turnip and marrow entries. Well done everyone, you have worked so hard! P1020185

Race for Life – Go Dalry!!!!

The pupils of Dalry Nursery and Primary took on a phenomenal challenge today, participating in the Race for Life. Every pupil walked, jogged and ran a distance of 1k, 2k, 5k or 10k. ALL pupils were absolutely amazing and made their teachers, parents and community extremely proud.

The pupils have raised a WHOPPING £1481.35 so far!!!!!!!

A HUGE well done to everyone that took part, and a humongous thank you to everyone that donated a raffle prize, sponsored a pupil and came along to support us. A massive thank you to Natural Power for sponsoring our Water and Snack Stop, it certainly kept us going!

Your involvement really means a lot to us, thank you!

If you haven’t had a chance to sponsor us yet, please head to our Just Giving Page https://www.justgiving.com/account/your-pages/dalry-school16-06-2016

P5/6/7 Paratroopers

P5/6/7 have been learning about the importance of paratroopers in the victory on D-Day. Today, they were given a mission of their very own.

Mission: design a parachute to safely drop a paratrooper into enemy territory.

Materials: one plastic and one paper sheet.

They were given 45 minutes to make the best design before they were put to the test. There were some fantastic designs, all very unique but which would prove to be the best?

Once the parachutes were made the time to test them came!

This means taking them outside to test them in the wind! We first tested all the paper parachutes and then the plastic ones. Once we established that the plastic parachutes were a lot more effective we decided to have everyone drop their parachutes at once!

Well done to the whole class! I think you could go an design new parachutes for the Army!

Celebrating Success

It’s been a busy weekend for some of our enthusiastic pupils.

Olivia competed in a dressage and jumping competition at Valleyfield. She won a 1st and 2nd in jumping, 1st in dressage and 1st altogether for both events. Very well done Olivia, we can’t wait to see you at the Olympics in years to come as part of the GBR Equestrian team!

P1020411

On Saturday Dalry Primary entered the Clachan Fair Fancy Dress Parade as ‘The Dalry Olympic Team’ and came first place! Well done everyone, you looked great!

Look out for the fantastic photos in the Galloway News…

The Queen’s Birthday

Friday was a fun day of right royal events! The whole school celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a variety of activities.  First thing in the morning we all gathered to see a Power-point about the Royal family, this sparked very interesting questions and discussions.  The pupils were intrigued to learn more about Trooping the Colour,  a ceremony that marks the Queen’s Official Birthday, so we watched a small clip on You Tube.

P1020346 P1020347P1020348 P1020350

Mrs Kirk our cook asked if we would make flags or crowns to wear during our Royal Tea Party, so we spent a part of the morning creating our royal accessories. We look very jazzy don’t we?!

After break it was then time for PE, military style! Miss Brown, who has been Navy trained, led our school in a Trooping the Colour style parade, she showed us how to get into different formations and ‘right-dress’ to line up correctly. It was great, but quite tricky to get lined up!

P1020369 P1020371P1020372

We then marched one lap of our Daily Mile around the pitch. Miss Brown, Mrs Devlin and Mrs Turner were pretending to be the Sergeant Majors marching alongside us! Jamie did not follow orders well and had to do 10 push-ups (he thought this was hilarious!). Miss Brown then showed us how to salute properly and taught us the Army salute and then the Navy salute.

We completed our fun Queen’s Birthday Celebration Day with a Tea Party lunch on the ‘lawn’ and a few traditional party games. The rain held off for us…just!
