Garden Adventures in Dalry

The landscape gardeners in Primary 1 and 2 have now been on two investigative missions to local gardens in Dalry.

The class have gained lots of wonderful ideas from the two very different but both equally interesting gardens.

Friday past Mr Goodwin kindly showed us the wide range of plants he has grown. The boys and girls particularly liked learning about the poisonous plants.

Today, Mrs Devlin showed us all the wonderful landscaping that has been going on in her garden. Everyone had lots of questions about how water features and tunnels were made. The rain did not dampen our spirits we had a fantastic time.

Do you remember the 60s?

As part of P5/6/7’s Interdisciplinary Learning about how things have changed or stayed the same, through the decades, from the 1950s, Mr Goodwin kindly offered to come into class yesterday, to explain what everyday life was like in the 1960s.

We have been learning how Primary Sources are an excellent way of learning about the past and so Mr Goodwin’s ‘eye-witness’ recounts, together with his objects from the era, really helped us get a feel for what it must have been like to be a young person during these years!

Thanks for coming in Mr Goodwin!

It’s all in the angle!

P5/6/7 took advantage of the lovely weather last week, to reinforce their understanding of angles. With Mrs Smith, they scoured the school grounds looking for and testing different types of angles. It looks like Reece could make a career in structural engineering with his excellent knowledge about how to construct different angles as he came up with some excellent ideas!

Science Extravaganza

Dalry Nursery, Primary and Secondary were lucky enough to have scientist Ian Alexander visit the school last week, as part of the Dumfries and Galloway Science Festival Outreach Programme 2017.

All pupils were exposed to a variety of mind-blowing science experiments, including an electrostatic ‘danger’ machine, that made sparks fly! There was plenty of ‘wow-ing’ and ‘ooh-ing’ from all audiences.

A huge thanks to Ian and the Dumfries and Science Festival for making the visit possible. We look forward to inviting Ian and his plethora of surprises back to our school soon.

Check out what else was happing across the region during the hugely popular D&G Science Festival at http://www.dandgsciencefestival.tumblr.com

We can’t wait for next year!

Easter Bonnet Parade

If you went down to Dalry today you were in for a big surprise because there you would have seen the boys and girls from Dalry playgroup, nursery and infant class out parading their wonderful bonnet creations.

The boys and girls first displayed their Easter headwear for a select group of top tier judges as well as Mrs Devlin and Mrs Turner’s classes, before braving the rain for a walk around the village.

Miss Joss, Mrs Moore and Mrs Haynes were very impressed with all the children’s imaginative creations. Well Done!

Looks like Team Spirit

Dalry Football Team are absolutely over the moon with their new football strips. Huge thanks to FoDS and RJ Mcleod for funding the purchase of the strips.

Everyone in school wishes them tremendous luck in their up and coming tournaments.

Dalry Football Team will be taking part in the Paul Jones Tournament after the Easter holidays and would love as many people to come along to the different venues throughout the Stewarty to cheer them on.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

P3,4,5 have got loads of ‘Energi!’

10/03/2017 by Mrs Devlin | 1 Comment

On Wednesday P3,4,5 enjoyed a trip to Energi Trampoline park in Carlisle. The pupils were able pay for the whole trip themselves using the profit that they made during their Christmas Enterprise Mini Dragons’ Den projects.

The pupils (and Mrs Devlin and Mrs Peacock!) had an absolutely fantastic time bouncing around all the trampolines, climbing, balancing and even having a go at some Parkour and the Ninja Warrior course.

There was lots of positive feedback about Energi; ‘best day ever!’ and ‘that was epic’ were a few of the comments that were shared on the bus journey back.

Well done everyone for representing your school so brilliantly and being able to fund a school trip yourselves…a Dalry Primary first I believe!

Here are a few pictures of the trip. Mrs Devlin will upload more ASAP.

P3,4,5 listening carefully to the VERY important safety talk…
