P5/6/7’s Air Raid Shelter

In P5/6/7 we have been learning about World War 2. This included learning about Anderson Shelters and why they were important.

We built one in our own class to bring our learning to life! Many hands helped to bring our Anderson shelter to life and we worked together to plan how it would be built. As we started building we realised we had to do some problem solving to make sure it would stay up. Ryan had a brilliant idea to have supporting beams to keep our roof from falling in. Thanks Ryan! We used white border strips to illustrate the corrugated iron effect that all the shelters were made from. Vinnie and Jamie worked out a way to make the straight strip curve around the top of the shelter. Good team work boys!

We are going to use our shelter as a reading zone, filling it with cushions and torches so we can read peacefully without disruption. Very exciting!

We have only just started our construction so keep an eye out for more pictures and facts to follow!P1010727 P1010728 P1010729
