Scots’ Poetry Competition

This event is now in it’s second year at Dalry Primary and once again, all the teachers have been very impressed and proud of the hard work every child in the school has put in to learning their poems. Children have been seen taking copies of their poems outside, during playtimes, to learn verses and practice their expression and actions.

On Monday afternoon, Miss Joss, Mrs Devlin and Mrs Turner swapped classes to listen to each child recite their poem and give them marks for how clearly they spoke and the expression they used, as well as any actions they added to make it even more entertaining! We all agreed that all the children made a great effort with their recitations and had obviously worked hard at home to make them as good as they could. Once the teachers’ judging had finished, the top three scoring children, from each year group were told they were through to the competition final!

The final took place, in the hall, on Tuesday afternoon. The whole school were throughly entertained by the all the finalists, who recited their poems beautifully! We were very grateful to both Mrs Porteous and Miss McCron for their help as judges. They too were very impressed with the standard of all the finalists and said that they had found it difficult to choose only a first, second and third place for each class. Nonetheless, after lots of discussion, their decisions were made.

Congratulations to all our finalists!
