People Who Help Us at Dalry School

To begin this term’s Interdisciplinary Learning topic work, children in P1/2 have begun to think about the people who help them in school. First they thought about what sorts of jobs happen around school and then about who did them. Next the children brainstormed who helped them and came up with lots of names. The children then worked in small groups to think about the questions they would like to ask these people, to find out more about how they help us.

On Thursday, the P1/2 interviews began! First we visited David, the Janitor. The the group of children who interviewed him wanted to know how he fixed things, so he explained some of the jobs he did.

Another group of children knew that Mr Goodwin helped us by fixing computers, but they wanted to know where he did his work and how he did it. So, the class went to visit Mr Goodwin in his office and he showed them some of the jobs he did, the tools he used and where the main part of the computer network was kept, which is part of his job to look after.

Finally, the class visited Mrs Kirk and the staff in the school canteen. The children in this interview group had planned a number of interesting questions to ask about the preparation of their school lunch and they learned lots about how the food was ordered, cooked and served.

Next week, the class will be visiting other people who help us in school and the interview groups have planned some insightful questions to learn more about their jobs.
