For all P5s, 6’s and 7’s Monday mornings are proving to be a good workout!
First we have John who comes in to teach us rugby skills. Today we were combining the skills we have learned from the past two weeks into a game situation. We had to work as a team to get the ball from one side of the pitch to the other and get it into the scoring zone. We were learning how to pass the ball backwards in a game situation, where there is a lot of pressure, and we were practising our short, underarm passes. We used the skills from past lessons, forming lines of defence across the whole pitch to stop anyone from getting through.
By the end we were playing some really good rugby!
THEN, after a well deserved break and a refuelling we were back onto the pitch. This time for some Queen of the South football! We began by doing a team building exercise, where we had to untangle ourselves. This proved really tricky for some people, but we got there in the end.
We practised our dribbling skills in a warm up game, where we had to jump if the word “header” was shouted (see picture of Reece), touch the ball with our knee if the word “knee” was shouted and so on.
We then put these skills into a game. There was some fierce competition, but we all powered through, not giving up. There was some terrific defence and some fabulous goals scored by many on that pitch. We all walked away happy, with smiles on our faces.
Roll on the next sessions!!
