The Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is an initiative run by UNICEF UK which encourages schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its ethos and curriculum. A Rights Respecting School not only teaches about children’s rights; it also models rights and respect in all its relationships, whether between children or between children and adults.
There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.
The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.
Children are healthier and happier
Children feel safe
Children have better relationships
Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world
Brownhall and Caerlaverock are proud to have been awarded the RRSA Bronze award: Rights Committed is the first stage of the Rights Respecting Schools Award.
