A huge thank you to Mr Brawls who made a set of goals for our keen football players! Having listened to many tales of woe about the shop-bought ones we had which kept breaking, and which he had fixed many times, he decided to sort things out once and for all! He did this in his own time too. We are extremely lucky to have him and this reminded us all just how invaluable he is to us! Thank you Mr Brawls – what would we do without you?
P5-7, joined by Mrs Ferguson, enjoyed celebrating the first day back with each other by singing Auld Lang Syne and raising a toast to the New Year with water or flavoured fizzy juice. We chatted about New Year’s resolutions and how New Year is celebrated in different countries around the world.

Wow what a show! The pupils of Leswalt Primary delighted their afternoon and evening performances on Tuesday 20th December with their production of ‘Santa’s on Strike!’
The super cast told the story of a disheartened Santa Claus who, having watched too many episodes of Supernanny, is convinced that the children of today are not deserving of Christmas presents. His band of cheery elves, Mrs Claus, the cutest Nativity scene and the Starr, Wiseman, Shepherd and King families, are eventually able to persuade him otherwise. Just in time to get a disgruntled Rudolph harnessed up and prepared to lead the sleigh on Christmas Eve – phew!
The boys and girls worked so hard to bring this all together and what a fabulous job they did! Wonderful singing, acting and lots of laughs and ‘aww’ moments made this a show to remember! On the 19th of December Leswalt Primary P7s went out to the Craignelder for their dinner, accompanied by Mrs B, Mrs Ferguson and Mrs Baillie. The girls looked very pretty in their finery, and the boys were very dashing. The food was fantastic – a feast fit for a king! We sat at the big round table and enjoyed our first drink courtesy of Jack’s brother. What a kind gesture!
We had a great laugh chatting about all sorts of topics. There was lots of giggling between Mrs B and Jamie – when she tried to pinch his chocolates! We all had a great evening. Merry Christmas to you all!

On Wednesday, the whole school came together with all staff to enjoy a tasty Christmas lunch of turkey and all the trimmings. A great time was had by all and there were many clean plates… especially with regard to the pudding bowl! 🙂 Staff also really enjoyed sitting with the children and having a Christmas blether.
P1-4 have been continuing to learn about basic first aid and emergencies. First, they explored a first aid kit and the contents of these.
This week they learned how to deal with minor cuts and grazes. They watched a video on the St John’s Ambulance website then role played treating the injury. Look at the photos to see our excellent first aiders treating our poor patients! 🙂

Many thanks to all the children, parents and relatives who helped out at the bag pack on Saturday. Everyone was in a festive mood and the boys and girls were great – wishing all the customers a Merry Christmas.
Thanks to the team effort, the grand total of £782.46 was raised in a few hours.

Well done to Jenna, Megan, Ethan, Kayleigh, Millie, Jack and Arden. These seven pupils participated in the Rhins’ Schools Badminton Competition on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th November. We are very proud of your efforts.
On Tuesday the 29th of November Stranraer Academy held the Rhins’ boys badminton competition. Jack and I entered it and represented Leswalt School. We didn’t win any medals but we tried our hardest and did our best. Seven Leswalt Primary pupils played over the two days of boys and girls doubles and singles matches: me, Kayleigh, Jack, Megan, Millie, Arden and Jenna. We really enjoyed the experience.

On Monday the 28th and 29th November, seven pupils from Leswalt Primary went to Stranraer Academy to participate in the Rhins’ Badminton Competition representing our school. We didn’t come back with any medals but we know we did the school and ourselves proud, and we all really enjoyed the experience.

As part of the Scottish Book Week, all P1-3 pupils across Scotland were gifted activity bags to help parents support learning in reading, writing and numeracy. To launch the bags, P1-4 parents were invited in to a presentation about Read, Write, Count and then given time to explore the activities with the pupils in small groups. The afternoon was spent playing numeracy games, completing numeracy challenges and reading books. It was a super afternoon. Thanks to the parents for coming along… the children loved it and all went home excited about their bags.
On the 18th of November 2016, Primary 5-7 got a visit from Pitch Pulse and Magic, a company from Live Music Now! Two people came, Juliette and Matt. Juliette played the piano and Matt played the flute, both were very talented. They taught us about how music can add emotion, set the scene and be descriptive. They first played a Brazilian Bossa Nova, then they played the Harry Potter Melody, the first part of the melody sounded mysterious, the second part was like a chase. We sketched what the music made us think of. It was very interesting. We learned about the families of the instruments; the flute is part of the woodwind family, and the piano is part of the percussion family. They also played the Bumble Boogie, which was very fast, a tango and the Dance of Goblins. Euan conducted Juliette and Matt when to start and stop, then Millie conducted them on their volume. We all really enjoyed the visit from Pitch, Pulse and Magic and we would like to say thank you to Juliette and Matt for coming to visit us. What an interesting morning!
