Primary 1 had fun with Mrs Smith, making some chocolate Easter nests today. They worked well together and created enough of the tasty treats to give everyone in the school one! Have a look at how busy our youngest pupils were.
On Wednesday 25th March the school opened it’s doors to parents and grandparents for an open afternoon. Everyone had the chance to come along and learn alongside their children. Activities on offer included healthy cookery, making electrical circuits, designing wonderful ancient Egyptian jewellery and even dancing along to “Walk like an Egyptian” on Wii dance!It was a fun filled afternoon in which all were able to get into the classrooms , and also have a look at the learning which has taken place.
The whole of Leswalt Primary went outside to try and see if they could catch a glimpse of the Solar Eclipse – but sadly the rather dreich day, meant the sun was hidden from view already – behind clouds! The pupils did experience the phenomenon of it getting noticeably darker – at 9.30am in the morning, as our photographs show.
Primary 4-7 recently enjoyed a visit from “Generation Science”. As part of Science week, pupils all participated in an interactive workshop which focussed on keeping their homes warm and well insulated – and how not to waste energy.
Leswalt Primary had fun on Red Nose Day – they made their faces funny for money (using face paints), they baked and sold buns, and they had a talent show – “Leswalt’s got Talent”. Ten acts competed in the live finals, after getting through the auditions. There was singing, musical instrumental playing, dancing, gymnastics and even the hilarious transformation of boys into girls!The judging panel for the afternoon was the musical expertise of Mrs Jane Parker and the comedy duo of Mr Harold Mc Cracken and Mrs Mary Buchanan.The eventual winners were the well rehearsed gymnastic duo of Megan Mc Intyre and Millie Smith. Runner up was Aiyanna on her cornet. Third place went to Rhona playing the piano.Gregor Reid in Primary 1, won the Easter Egg in the funny face sweepstake.All day there were raffle tickets being sold in school, with the prize winner getting to paint Mrs Baillie’s face – the winner was Robin in Primary 1, who transformed his headteacher into a colourful creature!The whole day raised £237.66 for Comic Relief – many thanks to all who contributed.Have a look at the photographs of all the fun we had!
Well done to the combined Leswalt /Portpatrick team of Rhona, Freya, Kathryn and Ruth who were runners up in the inter-school primary curling bonspiel. This competition was open to all Primary schools in Wigtownshire and Ballantrae. The girls won 3 out of the 4 games, and were only beaten by the eventual winners, Rephad Primary. They were supported and coached throughout the day by Mrs Beryl Niven. Have a look at the photograph at how happy they all are with their prizes! Watch out Eve Muirhead and team, these girls are good!
In the latest in their weekly healthy eating lessons, Primary 5-7 baked some banana bread. The bananas were bought from the local village shop – Leswalt stores . And, to say thank you for delivering the bananas to school the children took some of their home baking for Gillian and Fiona to enjoy in the shop!
Well done to Merryn, Aiyanna and Emily who represented Leswalt Primary School at the Stranraer and District Burns club competition in the Ryan Centre.Merryn won the trophy for her singing of Scots songs, and Leswalt Primary School were the winners of the Margaret Bell trophy for the most points gained by a Rhins Primary school.Great work girls!! Real confident individuals.
Mrs Bathgate set the senior pupils of Leswalt a challenge – they had to use the knowledge and skills learned in their recent electricity science lessons to create a Reindeer –
