P4-7 Cooking Club Week 4 – Jammy Jacks๐Ÿ“

In preparation for the Bake Off, the cooking club attempted some baking this afternoon and in the Spirit of Burns, we made some Jammy Jacks (because Robert Burns loved Jammy Jacks Of course!). We took the traditional flapjack recipe and added some strawberry jam in middle for an extra sweet taste!๐Ÿ“
Pupils followed the recipe, step by step, using the scales to weigh out their wet and dry ingredients and mix them together into a sticky flapjack base. They layered half of their mixture into a greaseproof baking tray, added a layer of jam and topped with the other half of the flapjack mixture. โš–We popped our baking in the oven to cook for 25 minutes. Then, tidy up time, which I must say everyone pitched in and gave and hand and soon enough, the hall was spick and span and all of our equipment was tidied away ready for next week’s recipe; Cheese twists๐Ÿง€๐Ÿญ.
This was such a super opportunity for us to practise some of the measurement learning we have been doing as part of our maths topic and have some fun learning a new recipe! Look out for Jammy Jacks coming home in tubs tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜

P4-7 Cooking Club – Pizza! ๐Ÿ•

This afternoon the P4-7 kicked off cooking club by making a simple recipe; tortilla wrap pizzas with Miss Douglas and Mrs Kyle.ย  They followed the recipe, step by step, and added their favourite toppings; Ham, pepperoni, pineapple, chicken and pepper. There was great debate whether pineapple belongs on a pizza!๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ˜‹

After getting cleaned up, we started thinking about the Week 4’s GREAT LESWALT BAKE OFF! We worked in groups to plan our cookies. Each group could choose 2-3 toppings and ingredients to add to their cookie mix. Some opted for white chocolate and kinder bueno chunks, other groups opted for milk chocolate cookies and Terry’s chocolate orange. We can’t wait to bake and test our cookies soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

By that time, everybody’s pizzas were ready! Some chose to take it home for dinner, but almost everybody chose to eat their pizza straight away – I think this was a good sign! Well done Team P4-7! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ˜‹

Satellite STEM๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿš€

This morning we welcomed Millie Craig from ‘AirBus’ into our P4-7 classroom for a fun morning of STEM learning. Millie is an aeronautical engineer who has recently graduated from the University of Glasgow and now lives and works in London. We were fascinated listening to Millie tell us about her super interesting job, as an engineer, who works on satellites – how impressive!! ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ

Millie brought with her some Lego (always a crowd favourite) and a project for us to be AirBus Engineers. We split into two groups, each with the task of building satellites. We were all given a role in the group; 3 fitters (responsible for building the satellites, in order) a Project Manager (responsible for quality assurance of the satellites), a Recycling Manager (who had the satisfying job of breaking up the Lego for reuse), a Transport Manager (whose job was to oversee the movement of the product) and the Customer who kept an excel spreadsheet up to date with how many satellites had been completed by each time, how many defected satellites they made and the number of incomplete Lego satellites left when time ran out.

Pupils were so engaged in the project and teamwork was a clear strength for both of the groups- Go Team P4-7! ๐Ÿ˜„ They had the opportunity after each round to make changes in their team to improve their production line’s efficiently and used problem solving and critical thinking skills to make changes to increase the customer’s satisfaction and their groups profits.

Ultimately the ‘Naso’ Team were the winners! And were treated to a packet of Haribo’s for their hard work. ๐ŸญWe had a really super morning with Millie and can’t thank her enough for travelling all the way from London for this workshop with us! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš€What a fun and engaging way to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths! ๐Ÿ”And who knows, maybe we have some future aeronautical engineers in our school too!

Bringing History Aliveโš ๏ธ

Today Primary 4-7 welcomed back one of their favourite visitors Kathryn Purchase from History Alive. Kathryn delivered a super informative presentation on World War 2; the rise of the Nazi Party, the Battle of Britain, life on the home front, conscription rationing, evacuees and VE Day, she really updated us life between 1939 and 1945! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Kathryn is so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, she kept us on the edge of our seats as we immersed ourselves in all things WW2. The children had so manyย  super questions, particularly about life here in Leswalt during war times. We shared with Kathryn some tales of Leswalt School during WW2 from our old school log book from war period, where the headmaster would share news of evacuees and changes to life in and out of school.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Kathryn had brought with her some amazing real-life artefacts, we had a great time exploring and role-playing with them – the deactivated guns and uniforms especially. โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฃ

What an exciting way to really kick-start our WW2 topic! ๐Ÿ™‚

We shared 3 of our favourite songs from the school show; ‘This Place is Jumping, ‘Christmas Time is Here’ and ‘Stop that Knocking’๐ŸŽ„. And just asย  Reverent Marlene said,ย  we enjoyed sharing a wholesome afternoon together celebrating Christmas!โค๏ธ

Sent with Love.. Christmas Cards for our Community๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ“ญ

At school, one of our favourite Christmassy activities is making cards. This year, the boys and girls have been working hard to make Christmas cards for our lovely Leswalt community.๐ŸŽย Our fantastic P6 and 7’s elves along with Mrs Kyle went a wee walk through the village this morning delivering cards as a little thank you for all the kindness and generosity we receive from our wee village year-round! ๐Ÿ’Œโค๏ธ

๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…Party Time ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰

Christmas show โœ… Time to let loose and PARTY!๐ŸŽ‰

Our House Captains Rachael and Colin have been working hard with Mrs Adams to plan a very special Christmas Party for everybody and they did exactly that. ๐Ÿ˜

This afternoon all the boys and girls got their glad rags on and partied the afternoon away.๐Ÿ•บย We played musical statues and Christmas corners before stopping for some juice, crisps, top-hats and chocolate crispy cakes – kindly made by Mrs Kyle! Afterwards we had time for build the snowman with toilet paper. โ›„Then soon enough, we were ready for a sing of ‘Jingle Bells’ and sure enough a bell ringing could be heard and the door opened to reveal the man in red himself!๐ŸŽ…

Thankfully, every pupil had made the โ€˜niceโ€™ list and so Santa gave a present to all. After waiting excitedly for everyone to get their gift, the pupils all opened theirs and there were smiles all round! Santa just knows doesnโ€™t he?!Santa also brought a very specialย  delivery to our Primary 7’s – their P7 leavers hoodies, which they’re welcome to wear to school! ๐Ÿ˜€

A huge thank you to our wonderful House Captains for organising such a fantastic party! ๐Ÿ˜„

Success for Soleburn ๐Ÿ†

This morning all the boys and girls cosied in to watch the Premiere of ‘Baubles’ on the big screen! ๐Ÿ“ฝ We had lots of big smiley faces watching the performance and feeling proud of all the hard work we have put in over the past few week to make the show a big success. There were lots of giggles, especially at the Sleepy Sheep (Leo) who plonked himself down on his beanbag and napped away, quite relaxed!๐Ÿ˜†
This special treat was made even more sweet for Soleburn House and Captain Rachael, who enjoyed some hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows and biscuits (of course) to celebrate having the most house points in Term 2! ๐Ÿซ A big well done to both House Captains Rachael and Colin and Team Soleburn! ๐Ÿ†

โญIT’S SHOWTIME!โญ

โœจLeswalt Primary Present Baublesโœจ

Let’s set the scene; the lights were dimmed, Christmas tree sparkling, fake beards applied, Mary’s baby bump stuffed… we were all ready for our big performance of ‘Baubles’.

Friends, family and fans from far and wide filled the hall and all the boys and girls waited excitedly back stage for the performance of their lives, and that it was! ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ

Through their tree-mendous actingย  and super singing (๐Ÿ˜) the boys and girls did an amazing job of weaving the traditional Christmas story into a primary school setting. Mr Potts the school janitor had been hard at work making baubles for the neglected school Christmas tree, each one linking to part of the nativity story!๐ŸŽ„

As always, we are exceptionally proud of all the boys and girls and can’t thank families enough for all the hard work which has clearly been put in at home to make sure everybody was able to say their lines so confidently and clearly. Well done everybody!๐Ÿ˜

For more of Leswalt Primary’s fabulous Christmas singing, come along to the Christingle Service in the church on Christmas Eve at 6:30pm (not an ad).ย

Roll the credits….ย
