Primary 5

18.01.18

This update will provide you with a snapshot of what primary 5 will be working hard on this term.

Can I remind you that homework packs should be in school every day. Pupils will get spelling and maths homework on a Monday that should be handed in on the Friday and reading homework On a Wednesday that should be handed in the following week.

The P.E days have not changed this term so we will have Mrs Foster for P.E on a Wednesday and myself on a Friday. The focus of P.E this term is fitness. Mrs Foster has requested pupils bring in some old trainers as they will spend time outside this block. We have some spares in school for those who do not have any.

As you know from my last update the Interdisciplinary Learning topic this term will be Titanic, the pupils are very enthusiastic about this and have already made a super start.

In maths the class will be looking at fractions with Mr Swan on a Thursday and multiplication and measure with myself on the other days.

Literacy lessons will initially have a focus on Scots with the pupils taking part in a competition in school. I am very impressed with the effort put in so far. We are also reading The Sleekit Mr Tod as a class novel. This is great fun and the pupils are making a Scots dictionary to help them with the tricky translations.

We will also be working on persuasive writing and the pupils were very enthusiastic when writing about why we should not cancel playtimes in the school.

Mr Swan will continue to teach French and science in his time with the class on Thursdays.

As always if you need to catch me about anything please do so, I am at the gate most days.

Thanks for taking the time to read this blog. Below are some pictures of the class working hard in a circuits session. They put me to shame with how hard they worked.

A big welcome back after the Christmas holidays, I hope you all had a lovely break and the pupils have come back refreshed and ready to learn.

We have wasted no time in getting back into some hard work. The pupils were keen to share their efforts in their new topic. The class were very excited to find out they will be learning about The Titanic.
We started off making a 2 metre long display of the ship to get us off to an enthusiastic start.

I think they have done a super job. Pictures below.

Thank you very much to all parents/guardians who visited the class for open afternoon yesterday. The pupils were very keen to show you around and let you see the hard work they have been putting in.

During the afternoon pupils were engaged in a building challenge. We had various levels of success but all pupils had a great time trying to build skyscrapers. Below are some pictures of their efforts.

06.11.17

We are now well underway with term two in primary five. We have a busy term ahead and below are some of the key things we will be working on.

Our topic this term is the Christmas Show. All pupils will have a role to play in this performance. Those who have auditioned for speaking parts have now got a script and should be rehearsing these when they get a free minute at home.  For those who do not have speaking parts, they are still involved in the show by way of singing.

The class will also be working on props, stage displays, costumes, tickets, programmes and various other things for the performance. This should keep them all very busy.

PE with Mrs Foster this term will have a gymnastics focus, with pupils performing skills and reflecting on how they could improve.

Mr Swan will be looking at pollution and conservation as well as focussing on time in maths. He will continue with French on Thursday afternoons.

Below are some highlights of our work in term 1.

Welcome to the Primary 5 class blog. Apologies for the delay in updating the page, I have only just been granted access.  The class have made a super start to the year and have been very busy. I hope you find this page informative. I know the pupils are keen to show what they have been up to.

A reminder that spelling homework is set on a Monday and should be done for the Friday of the same week. Reading homework goes home on a Wednesday and should be completed by the following Wednesday. Other homework will be issued as and when required.

We have P.E on a Wednesday with Mrs Foster and a Friday with myself. Can we please remind children to have a P.E kit on these days.

If any children have any art shirts at home they would like to bring in this would be much appreciated.

A reminder I am at the school gates most afternoons if anyone wants to catch me.
