The afternoon children showed great enthusiasm on their recent visit to the police station and enjoyed finding out all about a police officer’s job. Just like the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud of them all. Thank you again to all those parents who helped to make this visit possible.

Police Station
Our recent visit to the police station was a fantastic learning experience. We were shown round the cells, which seemed to be the highlight for many, as well as the different areas of the police station used for interviews, CCTV and fingerprinting. Some of the children tried out the hard beds but most agreed that they would not like to sleep there although the lack of toys and television seemed to put them off more than the concrete beds.
The police van was very popular and most had a turn at sitting in the back of the van. The blue light and siren caused great excitement although we had to cover our ears the noise was so loud.
Thank you to all the parents who came with us on this visit – we appreciate your support. Thank you also to everyone at the police station for spending such a lot of time with us and making us feel so welcome. Here you can see the morning children very busy on their visit. Photos of the afternoon visit will follow soon.
World Book Day
We would like to remind you that we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March with a visit to Annan library for some storytelling. As part of a whole school event, the children are also invited to come to Nursery in their pyjamas with their favourite book. If your child is wearing pyjamas that day, please ensure that they are warm enough, perhaps with something underneath their pyjamas, and that they have a cosy coat for the walk to the library. Please return your permission slip to Nursery as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Thank you.
Moving On
With Nursery enrolment tomorrow and Thursday (25th and 26th February), we are already beginning to think of next school year. If your child is returning to Nursery in August and does not already have an enrolment form, you will be able to complete one at the school office. Apologies if anyone has not received a form in advance but we will give you one when you come to enrol.
As some children enrol for another Nursery year, others are preparing for the move to Primary 1 and some have been visiting the Primary 1 classrooms to build their confidence and familiarise themselves with the Primary 1 environment. These first visits have been a great success with the children enjoying investigating the various areas and becoming involved in some of the activities on offer. Thank you to Miss Campbell and Mrs.Lindsay, as well as all the children in P1 and 1/2, for making us feel welcome. We will come to visit again soon.
Important Post
Last week a small group of children had an important job to do as we had lots of letters to post. They were very important letters as they were telling the new boys and girls which group they would be in next year and were inviting them to come to Nursery for a visit. There were a lot of stamps to be stuck and letters to be posted but you must have done a good job as nearly all the new children came to visit us today. Thank you to all the families who brought the children for their visit today. We really enjoyed meeting you all and look forward to seeing you again in August.
Move Up
Ava’s Mum commented on the children visiting Primary 1 and how happy they are:
“Ava really enjoyed visiting Primary 1 and is looking forward to going again on Thursday. Great to see them so happy and relaxed in their new classroom.”
It has been lovely to see how confident the children have become in their new classroom. We hope that they enjoy themselves this afternoon when they all get time together as part of their “Move Up” visit. We are also looking forward to our new Nursery children visiting us this afternoon. We have enjoyed their visits with playgroup and hope that they are looking forward to showing their families our Nursery.
Cinema Visit
Thank you to everyone for bringing the children to the cinema today. We hope that they had a good time. They certainly seemed to enjoy the film and everyone behaved beautifully. Here you can see the afternoon children waiting in the sunshine to go into the cinema and getting ready for “Postman Pat” to start.
“Postman Pat”
Please remember that tomorrow (19.6.14) is our visit to the cinema to see “Postman Pat”. We will meet you there at 9.15 or 12.45 depending on your session and hope that you’re all looking forward to a lovely time together.
Primary 1
Miss Campbell kindly invited some of the children to play in her classroom this week so that they could get a feel of where they will be next year. All who went, settled very well and are looking forward to the move to Primary 1. We hope that more children will get the opportunity to visit Primary 1 soon and experience all the great activities that are on offer.
Moving On
Carmen’s Mum enjoyed the photo of one of the children visiting from Ace playgroup:
“Lovely photo of Ben and the big girls. Hope they looked after you Ben? The big girls will be getting very excited to go be going into p1.”
It always seems amazing when this time of year comes round and we are getting to know our new children while preparing to say our good-byes to those moving to Primary 1. It is an exciting time for all the children.
