Mischa Impresses Miss Wilson and Mrs. Johnston

Our learning at the start of this term has focussed on Winter and Mischa has impressed both Miss Wilson and Mrs. Johnston from Primary 6 with her story telling and drawing about Winter as well as her excellent talking skills. If you click on the photo you will see Mischa’s super drawing of a penguin and a polar bear about to go into his house.
Mischa showed herself to be a ‘confident individual’ when she talked to Miss Wilson about her drawing, earning herself a Head Teacher’s sticker and her work being displayed on the Achievement Board in the dinner hall. She then spoke with great confidence to Mrs. Johnston who was so impressed that she took Mischa to Primary 6 to borrow some interesting books about icy lands and penguins. Thank you very much Mrs. Johnston for the books which Mischa shared with her group. We hope that you enjoyed Mischa’s guided tour of our ice cave and that you will come back and visit us soon.
Very well done Mischa for some fantastic work. You certainly deserved that Head Teacher’s sticker.

The Olympic Torch

What an exciting day we had when the Olympic torch came to Annan. Despite rainy weather, lots of us arrived very early in Nursery to go, with the rest of the school, to cheer on the Olympic torch. It was even more exciting because Rohan’s Mummy was the torchbearer who carried it past us. We made sure that we gave her a huge cheer and waved our flags to support her.

After the torch, everyone made their way to the Victoria Hall where we had a snack and enjoyed a “Sticky Kids” show, along with lots of other nurseries. There was a lot of singing along and actions to keep us amused and some children were even invited on to the stage.

The excitement did not end there because the next day Rohan’s Mummy brought in the actual Olympic torch for us to see and hold which was fantastic. We hope that everyone remembers these events in years to come as it was certainly a very special occasion. Well done to Rohan’s Mummy and thank you for bringing in your torch – we all really appreciate it.

“Trotter’s” Take Two

Our visit to “Trotter’s World of Animals” on Thursday seemed to be enjoyed by the afternoon children as much as by the morning children earlier in the week. The weather was kind to us yet again and the children made us very proud of Hecklegirth Nursery. They all had a great time and behaved beautifully. As you can see from the photos, there were a few exhausted children who fell asleep on the way home, tired but happy. Thank you again to all the parents who came with us: without your support, this trip would not have been possible.

“Trotter’s World of Animals”

Our trip to “Trotter’s World of Animals” was a hit with all the morning children this week. Some of us enjoyed the reptile encounter; others preferred to “hug a bunny” but we all loved the funny little monkeys and the lemurs. As you can see, Stan the Star particularly enjoyed meeting the bunny. As always, a picnic lunch goes down well and our time at the park or in the soft play area finished our day off nicely. We hope that the photos tell the story. Thank you so much to all the mummies and grannies who came to help us: we could not have had our trip without your support. We are looking forward to Thursday’s visit with the afternoon children.

Nursery Outing

We would like to remind everyone that we have our Nursery outing to “Trotter’s World of Animals” tomorrow (11.6.12) for the morning children which means that there will be no afternoon session. Likewise, on Thursday (14.6.12) there will be no morning Nursery session as the afternoon children will be on their outing.

Children should register at 9.00 and we plan to be back at 3.00. Details are in our previous letter but please ask staff if you have any concerns. Let’s hope that the weather is kind to us and that we have a great day.

More Visits in our Community

Our recent visit to the police station was another fantastic learning experience for the children. PC Leggat and PC McGoldrick gave us the opportunity to learn about what being a police officer entails and many tried out the uniform which they found surprisingly heavy. They also showed us round the cells and the various areas of the police station used for interviews, CCTV and fingerprinting. Some of the children were brave and closed the door on the cell but most agreed that it would not be very comfy to stay there for long. The police van, on the other hand, had great appeal and we could have stayed there for hours trying out the siren and sitting in the back of the van.

Thank you to everyone at the police station, especially PC Leggat and PC McGoldrick, for making us feel so welcome. As well as learning about your jobs, it is so important that the children see police officers as people who can help them and we feel sure that you will be getting a few waves whenever the children see you out and about in the town from now on.

World Book Day

World Book Day was great fun as we dressed up as our favourite characters and brought our favourite books to Nursery. To top off a special day we visited Annan Library where we were read some super stories. Thanks to the library staff and to all the parents who came with us on our visit – we really appreciate your help.
