10 000 Visitors

Since our blog started in October 2010, it has grown and provided an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of our Nursery. In April 2011 we added a Clustrmaps counter to measure the number of visitors to our site and we are delighted to say that we have now had 10 000 visitors in that time. If you click on the small map you can see that we have had visitors from 46 countries. We are particularly delighted to have had 57 visitors from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what’s happening in our Nursery, despite living a distance away.

We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone. We hope that our new families starting later this month will enjoy this valuable tool and will continue to visit our site in the future.

The Olympic Torch

What an exciting day we had when the Olympic torch came to Annan. Despite rainy weather, lots of us arrived very early in Nursery to go, with the rest of the school, to cheer on the Olympic torch. It was even more exciting because Rohan’s Mummy was the torchbearer who carried it past us. We made sure that we gave her a huge cheer and waved our flags to support her.

After the torch, everyone made their way to the Victoria Hall where we had a snack and enjoyed a “Sticky Kids” show, along with lots of other nurseries. There was a lot of singing along and actions to keep us amused and some children were even invited on to the stage.

The excitement did not end there because the next day Rohan’s Mummy brought in the actual Olympic torch for us to see and hold which was fantastic. We hope that everyone remembers these events in years to come as it was certainly a very special occasion. Well done to Rohan’s Mummy and thank you for bringing in your torch – we all really appreciate it.

Olympikidz

As the Olympic torch made its way towards Annan last week, we had a fun sport session in the hall organised by the Sports Development Officer. “Olympikidz” provided a good taster of several activities and got us in the mood for the Olympic Games. Hurdles, javelin, skipping through hoops and jumping skills were all great fun and it was lovely to have some parents join us as leaders of our teams which were Olympic countries. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a great experience for our children – we appreciate your help and support.

Stay Safe

After our visit from P.C. Leggat who talked to us about “Stranger Danger” and staying safe on the roads, Stuart, the local coastguard paid us a visit to talk about staying safe near water. The children did well in their discussions to produce some ideas of their own about potential dangers at the river or on the beach.

If you click on the photos below you should be able to read some of their ideas, as recorded in our “Thinking Books”.

Staying Safe

P.C. Leggat visited us this week to talk about “Stranger Danger” and staying safe when crossing the road. We spent a long time talking about what a stranger is and P.C. Leggat gave the children some possible scenarios to make them think about what they should do if this happened to them. The children always enjoy chatting to P.C. Leggat and his visit certainly made them think.

Healthy and Happy

As part of our “Healthy and Happy Week” we had a visit from the school nurse who talked to us about various aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

We learned about the importance of washing our hands and had great fun using Rachel’s “magic machine” which showed us where the germs were hiding on our hands. We also worked well together on different activities designed to think about which foods are good for us and which should only be an occasional treat.

All in all, this was a super learning event for all the children so thanks to Rachel for taking the time to spend with Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2 – we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned lots.

7 000 Visitors

Since our blog started in October 2010 we have seen it grow and become a valuable tool to provide an insight into the life of Hecklegirth Nursery.

In April of last year we added a Clustrmaps counter to our page to measure the number of visitors to our site. We are amazed and delighted to notice that we have now had over 7 000 visitors since April 2011. As you can see from the red dots, if you click on our map, we have had visits from 41 different countries in that time. We are particularly delighted to have had 35 visits from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what happens in our Nursery, despite living a distance away.

We really appreciate the comments that you have made on our posts as this adds to the blog and helps to make it a fun, shared site for us all. Let’s hope that everyone continues to enjoy our blog as much as we do.

Ducklings

As promised, Murray’s Mum had more exciting visitors for us after the previous week’s surprise appearance of their lamb. This time it was six gorgeous ducklings that came to say hello one afternoon. They were only a week old but already growing quickly. We had some interesting suggestions of what colour they might be before we saw them but we soon found out that there was a black one and five which looked “browny green” as the children described them. We had a look at the duckling’s webbed feet and learned that they don’t have any teeth but no-one risked their fingers in their beaks, just in case.

Thank you to Murray and his Mum for letting us have a look at their little ducklings. As you can see from the photos, we all thought that they were super visitors.

Football Fun

This week has seen the last visit of Ross, our football coach, who has brought lots of fun to Nursery and has helped the children to develop their football skills.

As it was a beautiful day, we were able to play on the school field for the first time which was exciting in itself. However, when Ross produced football nets and coloured bibs to put the children in teams, everyone was very keen to get the ball in the net. Great fun was had by all, using the skills they had learned, and some showed that they really knew how to celebrate when they scored a goal. Watch out for the stars of the future!

Dora the Doggy Visitor

Last week we had a special visitor in Nursery when Dora the dog came to see the morning children. Dora’s family told us how she was very special because she is a rescue dog and we all certainly agreed that she was wonderful. We learned how to look after a dog and Dora even brought everyone a present from the dog refuge so thank you very much to her and her family for being super visitors.
