Alfie’s Pizza

It was lovely to hear from Alfie’s family that, just like Kyla, they too are out on painted rock hunts. We love these super photos that Alfie sent us and his Mum explained what they had been doing.

“After a walk hunting for painted rocks this one gave Alfie the idea for dinner. We made our own pizza dough & sauce then Alfie decorated his pizza with lots of vegetables to look like himself. “

I wonder who left that painted stone that inspired you? Your pizza looks absolutely delicious Alfie and it looks just like you. What great skills you are learning to be making your own dough too. Very well done and thank you so much for telling us all about your adventures. It’s great to hear from you.

Annan High Street

After last term’s visit to the High Street, which we shared in a recent post, the children used their photos to create their own version of Annan High Street. Initially they made pencil drawings of the buildings they saw then they developed this further by creating models based on their photos and drawings.
We think the end result speaks for itself when you see their super buildings, road and cars travelling along their High Street. Just look at the concentration on those faces! Great work everyone!

Click on photos to make them bigger. I wonder if anyone has used junk to make models at home? We would love to hear about it if you have.

Have Fun With Primary 1

I wonder if any of you enjoyed Mrs. Irving recently reading  “Lucy’s Blue Day” on our blog? Miss Campbell and Mrs. Mahon thought that Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 might like to hear this story too so their children are going to listen to this animated version this week and their teachers have made a quiz for them to see if they can answer some questions about the story.

Miss Campbell and Mrs. Mahon have kindly shared their activity so that you can have a go at the same activity as Primary 1. You will have to listen well as your family reads the questions then they will help you answer the quiz. We feel sure that there will be some very good listeners out there from our Nursery who will be able to answer some Primary 1 questions.

Rhyme Of The Week

Our “Rhyme of the Week” is “Five Currant Buns” so you need to get your counting heads on everyone, as well as joining in with lots of super singing. Remember to hold up your fingers to show how many buns are left.

Click on the link below and sing along.

Kim’s Game

Do any of you remember playing Kim’s Game when you were younger? This is a simple, fun game to enjoy with your child at home and will develop his/her memory skills, concentration and ability to take turns.

Encourage your child to choose a small selection of items (4 – 6 initially) from around the house and sit them on a tray or a table.

Cover the objects with a towel then see how many items that your child can name.

Once they are confident to do this, ask your child to close their eyes, take one item away from under the towel and see if he/she can say what is missing.

Take turns as a family to take an object away.

If your child needs a further challenge, you could take two objects away or add to the number of items on the tray.

We hope that you have lots of fun playing together.

Learning About Our Community

As part of learning about our local community, some of the children from the Rainbow Room took their cameras to the High Street last term to record photos of a range of different buildings.
Discussing their personal experiences and the purpose of each building, they were then able to share their findings with their peers. Of course, while on the High Street they took the opportunity to look after our planter too.
We think that the children’s photos are super and that they showed great skills in using the cameras.
I wonder if any of the children can recognise the buildings from their photos and do they know what these buildings are used for?

Elmer Day

Saturday May 23rd is a very special day because Elmer the elephant will be celebrating his birthday. To celebrate Elmer Day lots of children from Hecklegirth will be doing some fun activities with their families so we thought it would be lovely for Elmer if we joined them too.

We would like to share this link to a package of activities which you may like to use to celebrate Elmer Day at home.

As we have all been talking about and seeing rainbows so much, what better story to read than “Elmer and the Rainbow”?

Mrs. Mackay’s Visitors

Mrs. Mackay has recently welcomed some new arrivals to her house. A parcel arrived containing two little pots which she sent us a photo of. Can you see what is inside her pots? They are tiny (and very hungry) little caterpillars.

Mrs. Mackay and her family are going to look after their caterpillars at home and she will let us know if there are any changes to them. We are looking forward to hearing about Mrs. Mackay’s new little visitors over the next few weeks. I wonder if any of you can guess what might happen?

We know that so many children love the story of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” so click on the link below to hear the author, Eric Carle, reading it. Maybe that will help you think about what is going to happen to these little caterpillars?
