Conkers And Pine Cones

Tilly’s family has been looking at the photos of the children with all the signs of Autumn that they have been collecting with their families.

“Tilly loved seeing her photo on the blog and showing it to her sister! She loves collecting conkers and pine cones at nana’s house, we have a huge collection!!”

Well done Tilly for bringing your nature finds to add to our display. I wonder what else you might find in the holidays?

Signs Of Autumn

Learning about Autumn this term has been helped greatly by the children’s super contributions to our display. Chestnuts, acorns and leaves of so many colours have been collected by the children and their families. Good talking skills have been evident as the children shared their finds with others and talked about where they had found them. Thank you so much to all those families who have taken the time to talk to their children about the signs of Autumn and have helped them find examples. Here is a selection of the things the children have brought in.

WaterAid Fundraising

To help the children begin to understand the wider world, we have been talking to them about the importance of water in our lives and they have been learning that, in some parts of the world, access to clean water and toilets is limited. We talked about what water tastes like in our country and some even tried out what it might feel like to carry a bucket of water on their head and they agreed that it would be very difficult.
As part of this work on global citizenship, we have put an empty water container in Nursery for the children to add any spare coins that you may have to make a contribution to the charity WaterAid. The container sits between the two cloakroom areas so that everyone can see it when they come to Nursery. We are delighted that the children have engaged well with these discussions and some have already kindly put coins in our bottle.
WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. They work in 38 countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Pacific Region to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Around 289,000 children die each year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That’s nearly 800 children each day, or one child every two minutes. We would like to make a small contribution to make a difference for these children by collecting any spare change you may have.

If you would like to find out more about WaterAid, you can visit www.wateraid.org, follow @WaterAidUK on Twitter or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wateraid.

We would appreciate your support in our efforts to help the children in this project and any spare coins in our water container will be gratefully received. Thank you to those who have already been kind enough to make a contribution.

Afternoon Visit

As promised, here are photos of the children enjoying an afternoon visit to the police station. Just as with the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud. Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who came along with us, we hope that you enjoyed a visit out in the community with the children.

Police Station Visit

This week’s visit to the police station was a great learning experience. We were shown round the cells, as well as the rooms in the police station used for interviews and fingerprinting, and we found out what happens when someone is brought in to the police station. Some of the children tried out the hard beds and, although they thought it was great fun to try them out, most agreed that they would not like to sleep there.
The police van, of course, was very popular and most had a turn at sitting in the front and the back of the van. The blue light and siren caused great excitement although some had to cover their ears, the noise was so loud.
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came with us on this visit – we appreciate your support. Thank you also to P.C. Leggett for answering some tricky questions and making us feel so welcome. These photos provide a taste of the morning children’s visit. We will post photos of the afternoon visit soon.

Our Community

Learning about our community and the jobs that people do has provided inspiration for some of the children’s drawings and paintings over the past week as they talked about the buildings and vehicles as well as people. Watch out also in Nursery for the street that the children have created in the craft area. Here is a small selection of the drawings and paintings that they have produced. Afternoon Fire Station Visit

As promised, here are photos of the afternoon children visiting the fire station last week. They all enjoyed lots of fun learning just like the morning children. Thank you so much to all the parents and grandparents who came with us on our visit – we appreciate your help and support.

Fire Station Visit

As part of learning about different jobs in our community, we had an exciting trip out last week when we visited the fire station. Fortunately the weather was kind, if a little chilly, and we enjoyed a lovely walk there in the sunshine. The children got a close up view of the equipment in a fire engine, as well as the fire officer’s uniform, and put their hands to their ears as the blue lights and siren were turned on. Of course, no visit to the fire station is complete without getting an opportunity to sit up in the fire engine and try out the big hose which was great highlight for everyone.
Huge thanks go to all the fire fighters who looked after us and made our visit such fun as well as to the parents who accompanied us – without parent helpers these trips out would not be possible. We hope that you enjoy these photos of the morning children and will post photos soon of our afternoon visit.
