Keep Fit with Primary 6

Primary 6 made such a fantastic job of “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week” last week and one of the best events for Nursery was the keep fit activity organised by a small group of Primary 6 children.
To help plan their idea, they came to ask staff details about our numbers and what the children would be able to do and would enjoy. They listened well and made notes so that they were sure that their event would be successful. They even came to watch the children doing a music and movement activity to get an idea of what to expect. It was quite clear that their careful planning paid off as they produced a fun, challenging keep fit session which the Nursery children absolutely loved. Stretching, jumping, jogging … you name it, they did it and all to the background of music which added to the event. They had even thought to bring a story to read to the children at the end while they were all given stickers for their efforts.
We say, “Three cheers for Louis, Aiden and Lauren!” for being so kind to think of Nursery children and for planning such a brilliant activity.

We’re Going on a Fruit Hunt

Last week was “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week” and it was great for Nursery to take part in lots of activities organised by Mrs. Johnston and Primary 6. Here you can see the Fruit Hunt organised by two Primary 6 pupils who hid a variety of fruit tokens in the Nursery garden for the children to find. They then had to work together to put the fruit in the correct hoops according to colour. Everyone had great fun especially when the wind blew them out of the hoops and we had to catch them again. Thank you so much to Primary 6 for taking time to organise a fun activity for us. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and loved taking part in “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week”.

Fantastic Work Neve!

As we continue to learn about our community, Neve decided to design her own street which we’re sure you’ll agree is fantastic. As well as producing a wonderful drawing, she has taken her time to carefully write the names of her buildings. Miss Wilson was as impressed as us and decided that Neve’s work should be displayed on the school achievement board. Well done, Neve! We hope you are as proud of your work as we are.

Star Award Winners

Well done to this week’s Star Award winners. As always, Miss Wilson was very impressed with our Nursery children. This week two of them received certificates for being helpful and for always trying their best. Well done to you both. We hope your families are proud of you.

Bring and Buy Sale

Recently Nursery morning children were invited to a “Bring and Buy Sale” by P5/4. As you can see, it was a busy and exciting event where there was lots for the children to spend their money on. Some chose toys and books, others preferred the cake stall but most found something they wanted to buy.
It was tricky managing to work out which coins we needed but P5/4 were very patient and helpful with all our children. Thank you to everyone in P5/4 for inviting us to your very well organised event, for your lovely manners and for your kindness and patience with the Nursery children. We would also like to congratulate you on raising over £230 for Guide Dogs for the Blind – you should be very proud of yourselves.

Star Award Winners

This week’s Hecklegirth Star Awards went to Hannah, Summer and Roxy. All these girls showed a good understanding of what is safe and unsafe to put in our mouths. We talked about who can give medicines and what would happen if we ate something that was unsafe. Well done girls for listening well and giving us all some good ideas in our discussion. We hope that you are proud of your certificates.

Burn’s Day

On Thursday we enjoyed a great celebration for Burn’s Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, our toast with Irn Bru. We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’: it certainly added to the occasion and they all looked wonderful.
Thank you to everyone who came to hear us singing with Primary 1. It’s so important for the children to have an appreciative audience for their performance and you certainly helped to make it a great occasion for them. Hopefully these photos reflect how much the children seemed to enjoy themselves.
Thank you, as always, for everyone’s support and lovely comments.
