Moving To Primary 1?
Parents of those children who are moving on to Primary 1 in August 2014 are warmly invited to attend our information sessions on Monday 16th December at 9.00-9.45 or 12.30-1.15. Come along to the school library to find out more about our school from Mrs. Alexander, our Headteacher, P1 staff and pupils who look forward to seeing you there.
Who’s Sleeping In Baby Bear’s Bed?
The corridors in Hecklegirth have come alive with some wonderful fairy tale displays recently and Nursery children worked well as a team to contribute to our chosen display of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. They chose a wide range of materials to make bright, textured shapes to form quilts for the beds and some made a very good job of painting the characters. As you can see, Goldilocks thought Baby Bear’s bed looked so cosy that she got in there before poor Baby Bear got the chance.

Christmas Chocolate
With the school Christmas Fayre on Thursday of this week, we have been making chocolate Christmas shapes to sell on our stall. Predicting what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge produced some thoughtful conversations. We also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate and the number of moulds we had to fill, as well as reading the dial to set the microwave so there was a lot of learning going on as we prepared our chocolate shapes.
We hope that lots of Nursery children and their families will be able to come to the Christmas Fayre on Thursday (6.00 – 8.00). We can recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spend – they were certainly made with lots of tender loving care.
Christmas Decorations
At the end of last week some of the children started making Christmas decorations from bread. They looked so impressive that they made a few extra to sell at the school Christmas Fayre on Thursday. Here you can see some of the team in action.

Celebration Statue
On Friday we were invited to join P1-3 for the unveiling of a statue in our school outdoor learning area. A former pupil, who is now a parent, is celebrating his 50th birthday in the same year as Hecklegirth School and has created an impressive statue to recognise the event. Unfortunately the weather was not kind on the day, as you can see from the photos, but it was lovely to be part of this landmark event. We are looking forward to a closer look at this interesting piece of art when we make visits to our outdoor classroom in the future.
Star Awards
Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. MacIntyre have been very busy lately presenting certificates to the Nursery Star Award winners. Well done to you all – you showed very good listening skills.
Fantastic Friendships
Our Health and Wellbeing focus last week was on friendships and Mrs. MacIntyre was delighted to visit Nursery on Monday to present four children with Star Awards for showing particular kindness and consideration towards their friends. Well done all of you. You are fantastic friends.
Star Award Winners
Last week our Health and Wellbeing focus was on politeness and manners. We have now established our Nursery rules and the children have been asked to try their best to use ‘please’, ‘thank you’ and ’sorry’ appropriately.
As part of a whole school award system linked to our Health and Wellbeing curriculum, Hecklegirth Star Awards will be given to children who have demonstrated success in this area of their learning. Well done to our first award winners who showed wonderful manners and consideration towards others. We feel sure that your families must be very proud of you.
