Moving On

With Nursery enrolment tomorrow and Thursday (25th and 26th February), we are already beginning to think of next school year. If your child is returning to Nursery in August and does not already have an enrolment form, you will be able to complete one at the school office. Apologies if anyone has not received a form in advance but we will give you one when you come to enrol.
As some children enrol for another Nursery year, others are preparing for the move to Primary 1 and some have been visiting the Primary 1 classrooms to build their confidence and familiarise themselves with the Primary 1 environment. These first visits have been a great success with the children enjoying investigating the various areas and becoming involved in some of the activities on offer. Thank you to Miss Campbell and Mrs.Lindsay, as well as all the children in P1 and 1/2, for making us feel welcome. We will come to visit again soon.

Family Breakfast With The Rainbow Room

As promised, we have a selection of photos from the Family Breakfast event with the children and their families from the Rainbow Room. Judging by the evaluation slips you were kind enough to complete, everyone enjoyed this opportunity and some commented that their children had tried different foods for the first time which is great to hear. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us over the two days and thank you to Eileen for organising another lovely family event.

Sunshine Breakfasts

Our Family Breakfast event last week was very well attended on both days. This was a new venture organised with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, as a celebration of our learning about Scotland and it seemed to be a popular addition to our family activities.
Thank you to all the adults who joined in the spirit of the occasion by singing along with the children and encouraging them to try the breakfast on offer. Cereal, various fruits, tattie scones and oatcakes provided a range of foods and most children enjoyed a good breakfast. We were delighted that some were encouraged to taste something they had not had before and found out that they actually liked it.
We hope that some of you have tried the recipes on the back of our menus with the children at home and look forward to hearing about it from them in Nursery.
Here are some photos of the Sunshine families having breakfast on Thursday. We will post the Rainbow Room photos soon.

Scottish Art

Chalk, pens, paint and glue have all been in action in the art and craft area to produce a range of work based on our learning about Scotland. As you can see, the children used different ways to design tartan and to make their own Scottish flags. We were impressed with all their work and have put up a display in the dinner hall to share with the rest of the school.

Buddies

As part of our transition work, Primary 6 children visit Nursery every week to play and build relationships with our children. They have worked on what makes a good buddy and are showing great enthusiasm and skills with the younger children. Thank you Primary 6 and those children from Primary 7/6 who have been doing a great job. Keep up the good work – the Nursery children enjoy your visits.

School Enrolment

We would like to remind you that enrolment for pupils due to start Primary 1 in August 2015 will be on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th January 2015 at your child’s catchment school. If you wish your child to attend a school other than his/her catchment school, there is an option to make this request on the enrolment form.
When enrolling their child, parents/carers should bring with them their son/daughter’s birth certificate and proof of address, e.g. a utility bill or bank statement.

Starting School

As we now have the school enrolment dates in January, parents of those who are moving on to Primary 1 in August 2015 are warmly invited to attend our information sessions on Tuesday 16th December. Come along to the school library to find out more about our school from Mrs. Alexander, our Headteacher, and Miss Campbell, Primary 1 and Acting Principal Teacher. We look forward to seeing you there to give you an insight into life at Hecklegirth Primary.
