The children who will soon be making the transition to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth have had two recent visits to the P1 classroom to get a taste of school life. As you can see, they settled in well and were confident to try out a range of activities. Thank you to Miss Campbell for making the Nursery children feel so welcome. They are looking forward to their next visit.

Playground Visits
As those moving to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August have now met their individual Primary 6 buddies, we have put a timetable in place for the children to visit the school playground. The buddies will go with our children on these visits to encourage and support them initially in the empty playground and then when the rest of the school is out.
We have already had the first of our visits and Primary 6 showed impressive skills and attitude to ensure that our children had great fun and felt confident in the wider school environment. Thank you Primary 6 for doing such a super job. All the children came back to Nursery from the playground happy and confident. They are looking forward to another visit this week.
Big Pedal Fun Day
We would like to remind you that our Big Pedal Event which has been running for almost two weeks will come to a conclusion tomorrow, Friday 4th May, with a Fun Day. All classes, including Nursery, have been timetabled to take part in cycling events with Annan Cycling Club and Katie Robinson, I Bike Officer. For those who returned the reply slip, a cycling breakfast will also be available for those who cycle or scoot to school that day.
Please remember to bring your bike or scooter tomorrow to take part in the fun activities.
Building Confidence
Enid’s family is pleased to hear about our recent visits to Primary 6:
“This is such a good idea, I’m sure it will go along way to help the little ones settle into school.”
The children are certainly growing in confidence as they build relationships with the older pupils and Primary 6 are showing great responsibility in their role too.
Visit To Primary 6
As promised, here are the photos of the afternoon children enjoying singing with our Primary 6 buddies. Well done Primary 6 for providing the Nursery children with a lovely learning experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon in Nursery.

Choosing Books
Letti and Oscar’s family liked their photo at the book fair:
“Letti and Oscar both enjoyed choosing books from the book fair with their big sister to enjoy at home.”
We hope that you managed to get some great books. I wonder if your big sister helped you read the stories?
Having Fun
Crue’s family has been enjoying the photos of the children doing their Daily Mile with Primary 6:
“Crue looks like he’s having fun”
They do really seem to all enjoy each other’s company and chat away the whole time. We have a few more activities planned with Primary 6 so I’m sure that they will enjoy themselves together again.
Walk And Chat
Over the past few weeks Monday has become the day for some of our children to enjoy a walk with our kind and helpful Primary 6 buddies. As part of the whole school Daily Mile activity, we have been looking after our Health and Wellbeing by taking a stroll round the school outdoor area. There have been some great chats along the way and we are very impressed by the way that Primary 6 has learned to engage in conversation with our younger pupils, finding out what they are interested in and chatting to them about it. Thank you to Primary 6 for giving us your time – our children really look forward to your visits.
Reading Visit
We paid a little visit to the Book Fair in school today and enjoyed having a look at all the super books on display. We even managed time to read some to help us decide what kind of books we might like. It was great to see the children so enthusiastic about stories and we felt proud of their super behaviour and manners in the wider school environment.
Happy New Year
As tomorrow is Chinese New Year, both the morning and the afternoon children performed a dragon dance along the school corridor to visit a few of the classrooms. As you can see, we took both our dragons along and got a great reception from lots of people along the way. It was lovely to visit different rooms, including Primary 1, where some of the children will be pupils next year, and Primary 5/6 where it was great to see the Primary 6 buddies who usually come to visit us.
Thank you to all the staff and pupils who made us feel so welcome with our dragon dancing and well done to Nursery boys and girls for showing great confidence in the wider school environment. Gung Hay Fat Choy!
