Star Award Winners

This week’s Hecklegirth Star Awards went to Hannah, Summer and Roxy. All these girls showed a good understanding of what is safe and unsafe to put in our mouths. We talked about who can give medicines and what would happen if we ate something that was unsafe. Well done girls for listening well and giving us all some good ideas in our discussion. We hope that you are proud of your certificates.

Proud Parents

Everyone was so proud of the children at their Burn’s celebrations. As well as singing beautifully, they all looked fantastic in their ‘touch o’ tartan’. Thank you to those who have left comments on their photos. We really appreciate it.

Ollie’s Dad said:
“What a great photo. Was so excited to hear Ollie introduce his songs to all the mums and dads, a changed boy as he wouldn’t have done that when he first started nursery. Keep up the good work- you are all helping make Ollie the lovely little boy he is. Thanks.”
Ollie did so well and we were all proud of him too. It’s not easy to speak in front of 50 Nursery morning children but to do it for their families too is a real achievement. What’s more, he went on to introduce our songs the next day to the whole school so well done Ollie.

Corey’s Mum commented on two photos:
“Lovely photo of you Corey with some of your friends but next time say cheese looking at the camera lol”
“Gorgeous photo Corey you look good in your plaid”

It is lovely to see them all looking so grown-up in their tartan. Corey seemed to enjoy taking part in our celebrations and did well.

Burn’s Day

On Thursday we enjoyed a great celebration for Burn’s Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, our toast with Irn Bru. We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’: it certainly added to the occasion and they all looked wonderful.
Thank you to everyone who came to hear us singing with Primary 1. It’s so important for the children to have an appreciative audience for their performance and you certainly helped to make it a great occasion for them. Hopefully these photos reflect how much the children seemed to enjoy themselves.
Thank you, as always, for everyone’s support and lovely comments.

Party Preparations

Tomorrow is party day in Nursery so the children have been busy making all the necessary preparations. They decided that they would like cakes, Angel Delight and jelly at the party so today has been spent making them.
As you can see, some of the children have had a great time in the kitchen, learning lots of different skills and the fridges are now full, ready for tomorrow. We hope that everyone has a great time.

We Will Miss You

On Monday we had to say a fond farewell to Tina, our Active Schools Co-ordinator, who is moving to a new post in Nithsdale. She has been providing fun activities in Nursery for many years now and the children have always looked forward to their time with her.
It was lovely to be able to take part in the whole school farewell to Tina and Nursery children did very well presenting her with our gifts which she seemed delighted with. Good luck, Tina – we will miss you lots in Nursery. Our loss is definitely Nithsdale’s gain.

Christmas Fayre

Our Christmas Fayre will be held in school from 6.00 – 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday of this week. Nursery children have made little pot pourri bags to sell on the night so why not come along and buy one for a gift? There will be lots of other stalls and activities to enjoy for the whole family including a visit from Santa. Here you can see the children carefully selecting the pot pourri for their bags.

Food, Glorious Food

As part of our learning about the senses, lots of our children took part in our suggested home activity of creating their favourite foods on a paper plate. We have had lots of good discussions about everyone’s ideas of what tastes good and are building up an impressive display in the corridor of the children’s work. Thanks go to all the families who encouraged their children to take part in this activity. We hope you enjoy looking at their ideas.

Calendars

Thank you to everyone who has placed an order for calendars. The children have been working hard to make all the orders to help raise money for their Christmas party. We would like to remind you that this is the last week to place your order for a calendar. A sample one is on display in each cloakroom area if you are unsure what they look like and we hope that, at £2.50, you feel that this is a bargain present for family members.

Star Award Winner

Here’s a lovely smile from our Star Award winner showing us her certificate just after being presented with it by Miss Wilson. She thoroughly deserves her award for always being considerate and co-operative in her play. We hope that this was a proud moment for Granny to share with you while on holiday from Poland.
