Vegetable Harvest

For those who were involved in last year’s growing project, we thought that you might like to see the vegetables that were lifted from the raised beds this week. Despite a hot summer holiday when the beds were not able to be watered, there still was a selection of vegetables to harvest. The children had great fun pulling them out and some spent a long time searching for the smallest carrot which was quite a competition.

Growing Project

Those who helped to plant vegetables last term as part of a Family Learning project may have noticed our crop in the raised beds in the Nursery garden. Some of the children harvested the carrots at the start of term and they seemed pleased with their efforts. Well done everyone who helped in this project and thanks to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for her work last term to make this project happen.

Shopping In The Sun

As we start to enjoy our holidays, the weather seems to have forgotten that it’s supposed to be summer. Here are a few photos from last week when the sun was shining and some of the children made a sweetie shop outdoors using their snack drinks and fruit. Let’s hope that you’ll all be enjoying some outdoor play at home soon if the weather improves.

Harvest

Earlier this year some children and their families worked together in a Family Learning project to plant vegetables at home and in the raised beds in the Nursery garden. Today they returned to the beds to harvest some of their crop. As you can see, they had great fun making faces with their vegetables as well as tasting them. (It really seemed a bit warm to make soup as planned). It’s interesting how some children won’t normally eat vegetables but they enjoyed tasting those that they had grown. Thank you to Eileen, as always, for providing her super Family Learning activities.

Snack Shop

With the sun shining and the outdoor area beckoning, many of the children are not so keen to have snack on these hot days so a shop was set up to sell milk, water, grapes and strawberries. Suddenly it seemed that everyone was hungry and thirsty and, as you can see, the little shop did some very good business out in the garden.

Bye Bye Butterflies

After weeks of watching the progress of our caterpillars who slowly grew and formed their cocoons, we finally saw our beautiful butterflies emerging in their net last week. After a few days of feeding them on sugary water and slices of oranges, it seemed that they were ready to be released and we could think of no better place to set them free than in our outdoor classroom among the trees and flowers.
They seemed to be a little nervous of leaving their safe little home and Miss Kerr had to give them a helping hand to settle on the flowers which gave everyone a chance to have a close look at our little butterflies before they slowly flew off.

A Duckling Hatches In Nursery

There was great excitement in Nursery yesterday as the children were able to see the little duckling that had hatched in our incubator at the week-end. Unfortunately our photos are not very clear but hopefully most children were able to see the duckling before it went to Simon’s home to be looked after. As well as more ducklings, we hope that we may have some chicks soon. I wonder when they will arrive? Remember to keep an eye on the incubator in the Rainbow cloakroom.

Police Station

As promised, we have some photos of the afternoon children when they recently visited the police station. They were just as well behaved as the morning children and made us very proud of them. Thank you again to all the parents who came with us – we really appreciate your help.
