WaterAid

As part of our global citizenship, we have water containers for the children to add any spare coins to make a contribution to the charity WaterAid and we are delighted that some have already kindly put coins in our bottle.
WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. They work in 38 countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Pacific Region to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Around 289,000 children die each year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That’s nearly 800 children each day, or one child every two minutes. We would like to make a small contribution to make a difference for these children by collecting any spare change you may have.

If you would like to find out more about WaterAid, you can visit www.wateraid.org, follow @WaterAidUK on Twitter or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wateraid.

We would appreciate your support in our efforts to help the children in this project and any spare coins in our water container will be gratefully received. Thank you to those who have already been kind enough to make a contribution.

Proud Parents

Emily’s family is delighted with her recent award:

“We are extremely proud of how well Emily is progressing in nursery and are over the moon to see she got a certificate for her manners”

Emily thoroughly deserved her award for her delightful manners. Well done Emily! Everyone is very proud of you.

Happy Hearts

Staff and residents at Lydiafield Care Home made a group of our children very welcome when we went on a return visit on Valentine’s Day. We felt so proud of our children as they chatted to the residents who were delighted to receive their gifts of roses, shortbread hearts and little craft hearts that they had made themselves. We hope that the ladies and gentlemen of Lydiafield enjoyed the visit as much as we did. Thank you very much for inviting us. We hope to see you again soon.

Growing Confidence

Confidence in the kitchen is growing in our children as they increasingly prepare foods and enjoy baking which provides great opportunities to develop their skills in Numeracy and Mathematics as well as Sciences and Technologies. This little group recently made chocolate cornflake cakes, showing great independence and responsibility.

Love Hearts

As a group of our children had been invited on a return visit to Lydiafield for Valentine’s Day, we decided to make a little keepsake for the residents to remember our visit. Sparkles, tissue, glitter and pompoms were very popular as they decorated little hearts to give to the elderly residents. Another group worked hard to produce more than 50 shortbread love hearts, again to be given individually as a little Valentine’s gift. Well done boys and girls for being kind and responsible citizens.

Planting In Our Community

We are all very excited to be given the responsibility of looking after the flower planter outside Bridge House on the High Street. The children will be busy preparing and planting over the coming months.
We would appreciate any donations of bulbs, plants or cuttings. It would also be great if any grown-ups would join us in caring for the planter and share any knowledge they have.

Independent Learners

Our Burns celebrations last week were a great success and this little group did a super job of helping with the preparations as they made shortbread for our Scottish snack. The children showed good counting and measuring skills as they prepared the ingredients and were involved in lots of discussion about what was happening as they were mixed and then put in the oven. Super work from these independent little learners!

Visit From Shelter

What an enjoyable visit we had today from Julie and Kerry-Anne from Shelter where they shared information about how they help local families who are experiencing difficulties around homelessness. Our children showed themselves to be responsible citizens and were able to identify how we can help families in need by donating items such as non-perishable foods, toiletries, books and toys. Should you wish to support Shelter you can pop your gifts in the box at Nursery.

Scotland And Scottish Traditions

With Burns Day approaching, the children have been learning about Scotland and Scottish traditions. In the Raindrop Room they have been trying on kilts, creating tartan using various media and enjoying the stories of Hairy Maclary. Some have even made their own stories about Hairy Maclary and his friends. Have a look at our display in the corridor to get a feel for what the children have been doing.
We would like to share a selection of their work. Click then click again on photos to see the detail of their stories and artwork.
