In our recent Big Pedal event we were delighted to see an increase in the numbers of children bringing their bikes or scooters to Nursery. Over the three days when journeys were counted, twelve children cycled and twenty two came on their scooters. It was great to hear the children talking about how to stay safe on their journeys and we are sure that they are also aware of the importance of using seat belts if they come to Nursery by car.
Since the Big Pedal event, more children seem to have continued to bring their bikes and scooters which is good news. Please remember that they can leave them in the storage unit in the Nursery garden.

Fire Fighting In Nursery
A fire fighter recently visited Nursery to talk about his job and about how to stay safe in a fire. As well as learning about the dangers of matches through a story, the children enjoyed fun games to help them remember to stay low in a fire as they crawled under makeshift smoke in the form of a billowing parachute.
Some children tried out a jacket and helmet for size and had some good ideas about why a fire fighter needs different parts of his/her uniform to stay safe. We think that quite a few of the children like the idea of being our fire fighters of the future and they certainly look the part.
Police Station Take Two
The afternoon children showed great enthusiasm on their recent visit to the police station and enjoyed finding out all about a police officer’s job. Just like the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud of them all. Thank you again to all those parents who helped to make this visit possible.
Police Station
Our recent visit to the police station was a fantastic learning experience. We were shown round the cells, which seemed to be the highlight for many, as well as the different areas of the police station used for interviews, CCTV and fingerprinting. Some of the children tried out the hard beds but most agreed that they would not like to sleep there although the lack of toys and television seemed to put them off more than the concrete beds.
The police van was very popular and most had a turn at sitting in the back of the van. The blue light and siren caused great excitement although we had to cover our ears the noise was so loud.
Thank you to all the parents who came with us on this visit – we appreciate your support. Thank you also to everyone at the police station for spending such a lot of time with us and making us feel so welcome. Here you can see the morning children very busy on their visit. Photos of the afternoon visit will follow soon.
Red Nose Day
Dress in red and make your faces funny was the Hecklegirth challenge on Red Nose Day and the Nursery children took part with great enthusiasm. Thank you to Joe’s Mum for providing the frame which produced some super photos. Thank you also to everyone who gave a donation on the day – the Nursery children raised £49.32. We hope you enjoy these happy faces.

What Job Will You Do?
Doctors, nurses and patients have been filling the hospital in the Rainbow Room this week. At one point Mrs. Alexander paid a little visit for a check-up and we are pleased to say that the children sent her off fit and healthy. We feel sure that we have some future doctors and nurses in our Nursery as they have been looking after their patients so well.
To help the children learn more about the world of medicine, we also had a surprise visit one morning from Armana and Harper’s Papa who works as a paramedic. The children enjoyed learning all about the equipment he uses in his job and were excited to see inside the ambulance which he kindly brought to Nursery. Our visiting paramedic hopes to be able to call in another day to talk to the afternoon children so we should see him again soon.

It sounds like Tobias from Primary 6 is enjoying the joint transition project with Nursery:
“Canny wait to start playing games and helping them to finish our project!”
Thanks for visiting our blog Tobias and for being such a good buddy. We look forward to your next visit.
Buddy Chat
The Primary 6 children have been visiting Nursery for some time now and are developing into kind and helpful buddies. Last week they came to chat to some of the children about a joint project. They listened to the ideas of the Nursery children and have gone back to their classroom to plan a game that they will be able to play together. Here you can see some of the buddies in action chatting to our Nursery children. Thank you for being good listeners Primary 6 – we are looking forward to you showing the children what you come up with as an activity.
