Please and Thank You

As part of our Health and Wellbeing learning we have been talking about when to say “please” and “thank you”. We read a story called “The Elephant and the Bad Baby” to stimulate our discussions. Here are some of the children’s thoughts.

Brooke: when your Mum gets your tea.
Olivia B.: you say “thank you” when someone gives you sweets.
Holly-Mae: I say “thank you” to the ladies in Nursery when I get snack.
Evan G.: I say “please” when I get sweets.
Frankie: when someone gives me something I say “thank you”.
Enid: you say “thank you” when people come to your house.
Kobe: when people give you something.
Jasmin: when I got sweeties for Hallowe’en from Mum and Dad I said “thank you”.
Cali: I would say “please” for juice.
James: I say “thank you” when I get special treats.
Annalise: I say “thank you” when Mummy gives me something special.

We are delighted that our children are learning good manners and hope that they keep this up as they get older.

Christmas Boxes

We would like to remind you that anyone who wishes to donate the gift of a Christmas shoebox should bring it in to Nursery by tomorrow Tuesday, 14th November. Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project and your kind donations will be sent to needy children who will undoubtedly be delighted with your gifts. Thank you so much to those families who have already donated a shoebox, it is greatly appreciated. Here are some of the children with their boxes ready to be collected.

Sparkler Safety

Just like the afternoon children, those in the morning showed good listening skills when learning about staying safe with fireworks. They were very patient waiting their turn for their sparklers and all followed the rules very well. It’s good to know that you remembered how to stay safe boys and girls.

Staying Safe

Sparklers are a great way to learn about staying safe with fire and the children listened so well to all our instructions when we enjoyed them in the Nursery garden last week. Just look at the faces of the afternoon children, all concentrating and listening to our advice as we talked about how to behave and what to do once the sparkler is finished. Some were more cautious than others but everyone was happy to hold a sparkler so well done boys and girls for being confident to try out something that was new to many.

Sticky, Stretchy Marshmallows

As we have been talking about staying safe for Bonfire Night, we had a fire in the garden last week to support our discussions. Toasting marshmallows also gave us the opportunity to talk about what happened to them as they were heated over the fire and they certainly tasted delicious once our experiment was over. The children used some good vocabulary as they talked about how the marshmallows felt once they were cooked as they found them “sticky”, “stretchy” and “like a spider”.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project and children in Hecklegirth can donate a Christmas shoebox which will be sent to needy children who will undoubtedly be delighted with your gifts.

Pupils in school and Nursery can donate boxes between 1st and 14th November so that they can be delivered in time for Christmas. Please hand your boxes in to Nursery staff if you wish to contribute.
