As well as learning about hygiene and safety when preparing foods, our youngest children in the Sunshine Room were developing their understanding of science and talking and listening skills when they recently made chocolate crispies. Who would have thought that something so tasty could provide so much learning? It is great to see these young children becoming so independent and focussed in their activities. Super work all of you!

Apple Crumble Helps Us Learn
One afternoon recently we decided to make apple crumble as we were given a gift of a big bag of apples. The children were able to learn about the importance of hygiene and safety in the kitchen, fine motor control, counting and chopping skills, using the technology of a microwave and the effect of heat on the apples.
Here are some of the children demonstrating their skills. I wonder if they might try to make crumble at home now that they have learned what to do?
Harvest Thank You
Thank you so much to those who have kindly donated to the whole school Harvest collection. Here are some of the children who added their contributions to the school display. Their gifts have now been distributed in the local community where they will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kind generosity.
Congratulations
Huge congratulations to last week’s award winners. We are very proud of you both and you thoroughly deserved your certificates.
Happy Families
Two of our parents have been enjoying photos of different recent activities in Nursery.
Evelyn’s family said, “looks like Evelyn is doing well in nursery. I love seeing pictures of her and that’s she’s safe near the fire. 🙂 xx “
We are pleased that you like our little snapshots of Nursery life. The children are certainly learning the rules of staying safe near fire and are becoming confident near fire.
Leo’s Mummy was one of those parents who participated in this week’s “Rhyme and Storytime” taster session:
“Leo and mummy had lots of fun at the rhyme session. Look forward to the next one 😊”
It certainly looked like good fun with Eileen. She is checking the times that suited people most and we are hoping that lots of our families will join in with our sessions.
Thank you both for visiting the blog and taking the time to leave us a comment.
Outdoor Snack
Snack outdoors, whether it is by the fire or not, is always popular. The children love to help prepare their own food and there seems to be nothing tastier than a snack that you help to prepare yourself. Chopping, spreading and learning to stay safe near a fire are just some of the skills being developed and, as you can see, the children are always keen to join in.
Word Of The Week
As we work on implementing the rules in Nursery as part of our Health and Wellbeing development, the “Word of the Week” this week will be ‘share’ as we help the children to understand what it means when we say that it is important to share.
What Are Our Rules?
The children have realised, through discussion, that rules are very important to keep everyone safe and happy. Here they are demonstrating our rules so that we can display them in Nursery as a reminder for everyone. I wonder who can remember the rules to tell their families at home?
What Rules Should We Have?
Over the first few weeks of term we have been talking to the children about what rules we should have in Nursery and why so thought we would share some of their ideas.
Alisha: don’t put stickers on your face.
Archie: be good. Don’t run, just walk.
Cody: no pushing ’cause someone could bang their head.
Jasmin: no kicking.
Emilia B: we need to tidy toys.
Leo: we might trip if there’s stuff on the floor.
Finlay: we need to tidy up if it’s a mess.
Jack: no running. You might trip.
Remy: no pushing ’cause it’s not nice.
Emily M.: no shouting ’cause we can’t hear you.
Jessica: no shouting.
Kendall: you’ve got to walk.
Emily B.: you might hurt yourself if you run.
Layla: no running.
Leah: no hitting. We are friends.
We think that the children have put their thinking brains into action with these ideas. Well done boys and girls.
Learning In The Snack Area
An important aspect of learning in Nursery happens in the snack area where children develop a wide range of skills. They develop self-help and social skills as well as fine motor control and independence when helping to prepare their own snack. Literacy and Numeracy are also part of the experience through talking and listening or, for example, counting the number of pieces of fruit on their plates. We hope that you enjoy these first photos of some of the children enjoying their learning in the snack area.
