Sunshine and Smiles

It was all sunshine and smiles for our Fun Activity Day this week. We were  lucky with the weather which helped to make everyone so happy and the children certainly had beaming smiles on their faces as they had fun at the various activities. It was great to see them all working together for their team and trying their best. We certainly felt very proud of them all and, judging by your comments and the super support the children had, we feel sure that you felt the same. Thank you so much to everyone for coming to cheer the children on. We think they thoroughly deserved their medals and ice lollies after all their efforts.

Our New Garden Wall

After lots of hard work by Rory’s Mum and Dad, our garden wall has now completed its transformation from a faded painting to a magical and exciting creation which stemmed from the children’s thoughts and ideas. We are delighted to have an original piece of art in our garden to provoke lots of questions and discussions: the children seem to notice things that we, as adults, might not have seen and it’s fantastic to be able to share it together.

We are extremely grateful to Rory’s parents for all their input, both in working with the children on their design ideas and in the hours that they have spent transforming their ideas into reality. We will post some of the children’s comments on our blog soon but there’s little doubt that they all love it. We would love to hear what you think of our new wall.

Fun Activity Day

We would like to remind everyone that Tuesday (22.5.12) is our Fun Activity Day which family and friends are invited to attend. In the event of bad weather we hope to hold it on Wednesday.

Please bring children to Nursery at the usual time and we will take them to the school field as quickly as is possible. You will then be able to follow your child’s group round the activities and watch them having fun. We ask that you please ensure that your child is wearing suitable footwear for the field. Fingers crossed for the weather to be on our side and we hope that everyone has a fun time.

Is that a monster in our garden?

Our garden wall is changing almost daily at the moment as Rory’s Mum and Dad continue to transform the children’s ideas into an exciting design that produces lots of questions and discussions.

Jana and Paul have enjoyed the “quality control team” who have often taken time out of their play to sit, watch and comment as they work.  Judging by the discussions, we think that everyone is delighted with what is emerging before their eyes and, as well as looking fantastic, this artwork is providing the interesting discussion we had hoped for. We feel very lucky to have such talented parents and are looking forward to enjoying the finished work.

Healthy Snacks and Happy Faces

We would like to remind you that tomorrow (26.4.12) is our “Healthy Snacks and Happy Faces” event organised by Eileen Johnstone, Family Learning Co-ordinator. Those who have expressed an interest will be able to join their child to try some delicious snacks, pick up some recipe/information leaflets and help him/her to make a happy face picture.

Some P1 and P2 children and their parents will be joining us so we are looking forward to a fun time as part of our Early Years “Healthy and Happy Week”.

The Garden Wall is Changing

It was great to be back in Nursery today and everyone seemed happy to see their friends. We had a big surprise when we went in to the garden and saw that Rory’s Mum and Dad had been very busy in the holidays with our wall design.

There were some interesting discussions about what we could see. Was it a beach and the sea? Was that the Scotland flag, a lighthouse or a windmill? Did we have a green moon and was that a jigsaw being drawn on the sand? As you can see, it certainly produced great excitement. We will watch and wait to see what happens next!

Ducklings

As promised, Murray’s Mum had more exciting visitors for us after the previous week’s surprise appearance of their lamb. This time it was six gorgeous ducklings that came to say hello one afternoon. They were only a week old but already growing quickly. We had some interesting suggestions of what colour they might be before we saw them but we soon found out that there was a black one and five which looked “browny green” as the children described them. We had a look at the duckling’s webbed feet and learned that they don’t have any teeth but no-one risked their fingers in their beaks, just in case.

Thank you to Murray and his Mum for letting us have a look at their little ducklings. As you can see from the photos, we all thought that they were super visitors.

Parental Consultations

We would like to remind you that parental consultations are available over the next two weeks.

If you have not already booked an appointment, the suggested times are still on display in the cloakroom area for those who wish to speak to key workers. If these times are not suitable, please speak to staff who will accommodate you at a more convenient time. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress and development with you.

Parent Consultations

As we come to the end of our parent consultations, we would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to meet with key workers over the past week. We find it very helpful to discuss your child’s development and hope that this has been valuable to you as parents. However, please remember that any concerns can also be discussed at the beginning or end of a Nursery session as we continue to try our best to ensure that we work together in the best interests of the children.

What can you expect at Hecklegirth Nursery?

As we start our new year, we are looking forward to getting to know all our new children and their parents/carers. This poem was given to us by a parent last year to thank us for her son’s experience in our Nursery. We will try our very best to live up to her kind and very generous comments this year and hope that you and your child have a similar experience with us.
